This position provides inspection, decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of instruments and other patient care equipment in accordance with processing guidelines, AAMI, AORN, TJC, and OSHA requirements.

Operates departmental equipment daily according to manufacturer instructions with emphasis on safety.

Provides customer service to all departments with a focus on the patient need.

Processes and documents all sterile supplies and equipment daily using chemical, biological, and mechanical indicators to verify sterility in accordance with manufacturer instructions and hospital policy.

Monitors and performs antimicrobial and disinfection solutions testing according to manufacturer instructions and documentation daily.

Minimum Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Required Skills

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Basic understanding/knowledge of surgical central sterilization techniques required.

Basic understanding/knowledge of scrub tech duties preferred.

Minimum of two years previous healthcare in a hospital setting preferred.

Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS) current upon hire.

New hires will have ninety (90) days from date of hire to obtain American Heart Association certifications. Notwithstanding this ‘grace period’ for obtaining American Heart Association certifications, employees are not excused from being current in any and all existing certifications that are required for their position as outlined in the position job description.

CRCST and/or CST certification preferred.
