Description

PeaceHealth is seeking a Patient Telesitter for a Per Diem/Relief, 12 Hour, Variable Shifts position. The general salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $20.69 – $32.87. The actual hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to, the job/position responsibilities, location, terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement, education, training, work experience, seniority, work performance, etc.

This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement. There may be more than one opening on this posting.

WHAT YOU BRING TO PEACEHEALTH !!!

Essential Functions

  • Utilizes nursing assistant skills to provide continuous remote monitoring, support and observation of assigned patients through a Telesitter software system. Coordinates relief when leaving the station, to maintain constant patient observation.

  • Maintains visual patient observation at all times. Verbally redirects patient over digital 2-way audio device as needed to ensure patient safety. Summons nursing staff if the patient requires assistance.

  • Provides patient with explanations as necessary through monitoring system voice output. Escalates to clinical staff on unit.

  • If patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others, escalates to clinical staff on the unit.

  • Ensures patient’s primary language, if other than English, is assigned in system.

  • Participates in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues and ensures patient environment safety. Seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from room and reports findings to charge nurse. Escalates any patient safety hazard identified in room to clinical staff or unit.

  • Participates in safe patient hand-off at break or change of shift.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma preferred or equivalent.

  • Required: Completion of monitoring equipment class within 1 month of hire.

Experience

  • 1 year Preferred: Patient care experience, preferably in an acute care setting.

Credentials

  • Required: Certified Nurse Assistant - Washington.

  • Required Upon Hire: Basic Life Support - completed through the American Heart Association or Red Cross

Skills

  • Capable of continuous monitoring of multiple patients on one screen at one time and remaining alert at all times while on duty. (Required)

  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively with patients using a microphone and headset. (Required)

  • Ability to communicate with hospital staff and respond quickly to patient behavioral changes. (Required)

  • Ability to perform duties requiring prolonged and or extensive sitting, standing, and walking. (Required)

  • Ability to use discretion and courtesy when working with patients, visitors, and staff. (Required)

  • Efficiency in multitasking, and ability to prioritize simultaneous situations. (Required)

  • Proficient computer skills with ability to navigate windows-based environment. (Required)

Working Conditions

Lifting

  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).

  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.

  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (i.e., WOW, medical carts).

  • Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA) Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.

  • Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.

  • Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching/ kneeling frequently.

  • Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.

Environmental Conditions

  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.

  • Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.

Mental/Visual

  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
