Description

SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Medical Director and/or Program Director, supervises the LPNs and provides medical care and support to patients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  • On Site daily.

  • Supervises LPNs/Medical Assistants.

  • Maintains emergency medical kit at each location.

  • Develop and implement a plan to have staff and patients, where appropriate, trained in the prescribed in the use of Narcan kit.

  • Support patients in the (self) administration of medication.

  • Documentation of (self) administration of medication.

  • Performs TB and Drug screenings on all patients within 72 hours of admissions.

  • Performs routine urine drug screens as directed by the treatment/recovery plan.

  • Monitors and records vital signs.

  • Provides triage and provides medical services accordingly.

  • Performs TB screenings on all patients.

  • For patients with health care needs, schedules and coordinates all medical appointments, and provides periodic follow-up.

  • Reviews and transcribes medication orders, and monitors medication records for compliance;

  • Observes and records response to treatment/medication and notifies the Medical Director, the Director or Nursing, and the Program Director of any such instances.

  • Monitors ongoing/chronic medical problems.

  • Handles minor needs of patients including attending to minor injuries, administering routine medications.

  • Maintains all medical records.

  • Performs QA activities.

  • EKG

  • Performs accurate and complete audits of medication transported, received, administered, stored or disposed, as trained and assigned, in accordance with Phoenix House medication policies and procedures.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Current NYS Licensed Registered Nurse

  • Current certification in BLS and/or ACLS

  • Preferred National Provider Identifier (NPI)

  • Preferred Medicaid/Medicare Number

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • At least three years related experience.

  • Qualified by training, education, and experience in providing nursing care for chemically addicted patients and patients withdrawing from alcohol and or drugs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This job operates in an indoor medical clinical environment.This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. Appropriate gloves required.
