Summary

SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities, has an excellent and immediate opening for the Electrician for SMG/Long Beach Convention Center. Responsible for installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment.

Distributes and picks-up power drops as needed.

Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.

Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.

Tests malfunctioning machinery and discusses malfunction with Electrician Supervisor or other maintenance workers to diagnose malfunction.

Replaces faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices.

Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards.

Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors.

Plans layout of high and low voltage wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.

Diagnoses and replaces faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma, trade school degree or general education degree (GED)

Or 3-5 years related experience and/or training in electrical and HVAC

Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Electrical Journeyman Certificate preferred

Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of national electrical codes

Knowledge of electrical theory

Excellent organization skills

Ability to prioritize and to handle multiple projects simultaneously

Strong problem-solving skills required

Good written, verbal and interpersonal skills required; ability to interact with all levels of staff including management

Ability to effectively supervise staff

Strong customer service skills

Professional presentation, appearance and work ethic

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have some knowledge of computers.

Other Qualifications

Electrical Journeyman Certificate preferred

Ability to work with minimal supervision

Ability to work flexible hours including daytime, evening, weekends and holidays, as needed

Must have professional attitude and appearance

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
