Overview and Essential Functions

Asphalt Concrete Foreman $22 - $30 / hour (D.O.E)

We are looking for an experienced Asphalt Foreman to join our team and help connect America. The Asphalt Foreman will provide guidance and coordinate activities of a construction crew, as well as document the work performed by assigned crew members. They are also responsible for ensuring that the installation, maintenance, and/or repair of customers telecommunications equipment is completed safely, timely, and accurately. At a minimum, the position requires a good working knowledge of telecommunications network or system construction; ability to read and comprehend maps and schematics; familiarity with equipment and tools; ability to identify and troubleshoot problems.

    What you’ll do at VCI Construction... (essential functions)

  • Measure slope and thickness of paving to verify compliance with contract

  • Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications and standards

  • Study production schedules and estimate worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment

  • Participate and monitor the training and ongoing development of subordinate employees

  • Evaluate situations and suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crews

  • Coordinate work activities with Project Manager, Operation Managers, and Superintendent

  • Record daily information such as personnel, production time, material, equipment and operational data on specified forms and reports to be turned in daily.

  • Assign work to laborers, based on material and work requirements of specific jobs

  • Order or requisition materials and supplies when needed

  • Ensure proper jobsite signage is displayed at each project

  • Take pictures of projects

  • Check and monitor weather on a daily business

  • Foreman will supervise the lay out, assembly, and installation of duct and vault systems in Southern California for both private and public customers (prevailing wage and standard wage)

  • Manage daily activities of multiple crews.

  • Foreman must utilize heavy equipment and trucking to excavate, install, and complete projects

  • Operate backhoes, loaders, excavators, asphalt rollers, and other heavy equipment with both CAT and DEERE controls

  • Continually inspect the work site for potential hazards or safety concerns.

  • Responsible for safe work environments and comply with state, federal, OSHA and VCI safety standards

  • Review and approve employee time sheets.

  • Travel to and from job sites in California

  • Take-Off of materials, aggregates, and project requirements.

  • Foreman will coordinate with Equipment Manager and Purchasing Manager

  • Schedule and coordinate subcontractors

  • Communicates both orally and written, with local officials, company management/ staff, customers, and others

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Who VCI Construction is looking for… (required skills for success)

  • You are at least 18 years old

  • You are authorized to work in the United States for this company

  • Must have a valid Drivers License

  • Must have 3-5 years of experience in underground dry utilities

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check

  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints and project specifications to assist the planning for construction sequencing.

  • Must be able and willing to work outdoors and in inclement weather conditions

  • Must be able to lift and carry materials of all shapes and sizes, weighing 50 to 100 pounds

  • Must be able to maintain visual and audible contact with other crewman and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement

  • Must be able to operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery

  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time

  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl while performing work

  • Must be able to ascend and descend ladders

  • Must be able to sit for hours on equipment

  • Must be able to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, hard hat, and any applicable safety gear
