Sierra Nevada Corporation Sr. Principal Manufacturing Engineer in Lone Tree, Colorado

As a Sr Principal Manufacturing Engineer, you will guide Manufacturing Engineering efforts across program Integrated Product Teams during the full life cycle of a major ISR program. The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for development of manufacturing tools and processes, ensuring design for manufacturability is integrated into the design process, and supporting the Operations teams on tooling and process development to ensure aircraft modification and maintenance can be performed efficiently and safely. This role requires high coordination across all program Integrated Product Teams, the Chief Engineer, and Operations Director.

You will propose application of new technologies and techniques to drive continual process improvement into the program. This includes oversight of the manufacturing and production process’, tools, and workflows to driving repeatability, efficiency, reliability, safety, and quality on all program products. You will manage a team of employees at multiple sites including hiring, training, career development to grow the Manufacturing Engineering team. You and your team will participate in document, drawing, and design reviews including working with design teams to meet major program milestones such as SRR, PDR, CDR, and aircraft modification schedule.

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in related discipline and typically 16 or more years of relevant experience

  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of required education

  • Demonstrated knowledge of multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing principles and practices

  • Experience in working and leading large design and development teams

  • Experience in design and development of large aircraft or extensive aircraft modification programs

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Thorough understanding of Design for Manufacturability tools and processes

  • Experience supporting operations teams in the design of manufacturing tools and processes for modifications and maintenance of aircraft

  • Experience in aircraft modification and maintenance efforts working under FAA repair station guidelines

Preferred:

  • Experience with mechanical and electrical systems, CAD tool supporting each (MCAD/ECAD), and manufacturing challenges related to designs for mechanical and electrical systems and components

  • Experience with Mechanical and Electrical CAD automated checking tools

  • Experience ASME Y14 standards including dimensionless drawings and GD&T

  • Experience converting MCAD and ECAD files to both additive and subtractive manufacturing tools (CNC, 3D printers)

  • Experience in executing high-impact trade studies

  • Thorough understanding of establishing, tracking, and addressing key programmatic risks

  • Extensive understanding of Configuration Management and Data Management, QA, FAA conformity practices

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $159,430.15 - $219,216.46. SNC considers several factors when extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates’ key skills, relevant work experience, and education/training/certifications.

SNC offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
