Sierra Nevada Corporation Engineering Manager I - Instrumentation in Lone Tree, Colorado

As an Engineering Manager, you will be using your skills and expertise to manage functional teams through program execution for our products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You will represent the engineering department at all management level meetings. You'll ensure that the engineering design, documentation, and approvals meet the program schedules, are obtained in a timely manner and that engineering hours expended are productive, meeting program goals and budgets. You will own and continuously improve processes and procedures, oversee training of staff and provide technical direction as required. You will be leading an instrumentation test team across the full spectrum of test operations to include personnel management; data acquisition package design and installation; test planning, execution, analysis, and reporting support; data management; flight operations support; and customer interactions.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading a large team across a multiple work and test locations

  • Supporting instrumentation team efforts from design to de-modification through requirements development, design, lab test, integration, and test operations support

  • Coordinating with Test Engineering & Operations teams on instrumentation needs, schedule and facilities

  • Act as a technical liaison to the Test Engineering Manager

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in a related discipline and typically 8 or more years of relevant technical experience

  • Understanding of engineering principles and practices

  • Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools, analysis and simulation

  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary design and development teams

  • Experience with extensive ground and flight test programs

  • Experience with 14 CFR Part 25 testing

  • Experience with Military Systems testing

  • Experience independently executing functional responsibilities for small to medium sized programs

  • Familiar with Ethernet, 1553, ARINC 429, and CAN bus protocol

Preferred:

  • Typically 2-4 years of relevant leadership and/or project management experience

  • Previous management experience; exposure to recruiting employees; assigning, directing, and evaluating their work; and overseeing the development and maintenance of staff competence

  • Experience with identifying and coordinating resources to ensure the required tools, processes, and training are available/effective and programs are staffed and supported to achieve success

  • Understanding of how to prepare project schedules, budgets, bids, and estimates for proposed program work packages

  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense or US Military

  • Ability to motivate/work with others

  • Prior exposure to working successfully in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment emphasizing rapid prototyping and fielding of capabilities, with minimal supervision

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project

  • Previous leadership experience: exposure to recruiting employees including assigning, directing and evaluating their work and overseeing the development and maintenance of staff competence

  • Ability to independently execute functional responsibilities for large programs

  • Large transport category jet or turboprop aircraft test experience

  • Experience with designing and utilizing complex instrumentation data acquisition packages

  • Experience generating electrical and mechanical drawings for instrumentation installation activity

  • Software development or coding experience

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $120,552.10 - $165,759.14. SNC considers several factors when extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates’ key skills, relevant work experience, and education/training/certifications.

SNC offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
