OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT/SECTION

  • Global Corporate and Investment Banking (GCIB) NBFI is in charge of the coverage of Insurance and Reinsurance companies in EMEA. The team is building on recent success to expand the product suite to include capital and liquidity management solutions.

  • The team currently has 4 members and is active with the key names in the sector in the UK and the rest of Europe

NUMBER OF DIRECT REPORTS

  • None initially, but there is scope to develop managerial responsibilities in the future.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

  • We are looking for an experienced candidate with a good understanding of insurance financials and previous exposure to insurance solutions either in a bank, an insurance company or a broker, and established connections within the sector to promote MUFG product offering

  • The position involves coverage responsibility in addition to developing solutions and the successful candidate can expect to take more coverage responsibility as the team continues to expand

  • Cooperation with other MUFG offices - the US in particular is a key part of the role and the successful candidate should expect to work closely with the Insurance team based in NY.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be part of the Insurance coverage team and work with the product teams to grow the revenues in order to gradually establish MUFG as a leading Insurance House globally

  • As First Line of Defense, liaise with credit to build the tools to help the risk analysis of insurance solutions and develop a risk framework

  • The successful candidate will identify the potential for more advanced solutions for insurance clients and take a leading role in origination

  • Work with the Head of NBFI to train, supervise and develop insurance RMs in EMEA and other regions

WORK EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • Previous experience in structuring insurance solutions

  • Coverage responsibility

Preferred:

  • Working experience in the capital management or solutions team of an insurance, a reinsurance or an insurance broker

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Functional / Technical Competencies:

Essential

  • Knowledge of Solvency 2 and BMA regulations

  • Understanding of Consolidator business

  • Understanding of reinsurance

  • Understanding of regulations relating to reserve for P&C and Life

  • Good access to the Lloyd’s market and mid-size insurance carriers across Europe where the team want to expand

  • Exposure to sidecar financing

Education / Qualifications:

Essential

  • Finance and derivatives

Preferred:

  • Actuarial background useful but not necessary

  • Good understanding of the credit process in a bank

  • Deep understanding of risk and able to take a long term view the business

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

  • A calm approach, with the ability to perform well in a pressurized environment

  • Strong numerical skills
