ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Senior Technical Manager reports to the Head of Technical and supports Statutory, Regulatory and Technical compliance in delivery of Project and Client requirements.

The role of Senior Technical Manager is recognised as a subject matter expert in a relevant engineering discipline(s).

The Senior Technical Manager deputises for the Head of Technical Services in their absence.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The core responsibilities of the Senior Technical Manager include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the Technical Manager team to support business needs,

  • Provide specialist engineering and technical support and advice to Project Delivery, Inspection and Quality Management teams and clients, where necessary.

  • Support the technical competence of Quality Services staff at planned intervals and provide technical mentoring, coaching and advice, where necessary.

  • Support inspection staff in ensuring they are suitably qualified and experienced to perform allocated work scopes.

  • Undertake, support (and lead, when necessary) and coordinate technical investigations in support of client activities, where necessary.

  • Support the promotion of continuous improvement within Quality Services to develop the effectiveness and efficiency of delivery and execution processes.

  • Line management (including performance management) of Quality Services Technical Managers

  • Prepare Technical Review documents in accordance with statutory requirements.

  • Review, provide comment and approve technical procedures for the inspection programme.

  • Undertake competence assurance reviews of Inspection Body staff and suppliers.

Additional responsibilities of the Senior Technical Manager may include, but are not limited to:

  • Undertake quality/surveillance inspections, assessing activities and reviewing outputs during periods of peak operational activity.

  • Support Proposals Teams and Project Delivery teams by providing input to prequalification and tender proposals.

  • Assist in developing methodology for bids.

  • Support and promote implementation of and adherence to WSP UK BMS policies and procedures within Quality Services, including those relating to Health, Safety and Wellbeing, and Human Resources.

  • Review Inspection Body Quality Reports and provide feedback which identifies areas for improvement.

We'd love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Degree qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.

  • Demonstrable working experience in a similar engineering role.

  • Extensive, practical experience and qualifications in a specialist technical subject that support the business unit.

  • Working experience and qualifications in a specialist engineering discipline.

  • Experience of managing a team of multi discipline technical staff on complex, large-scale projects.

  • An ability to communicate complex technical information to a wide range of audiences internally and externally.

Desirable qualification and experience:

  • Chartered Engineer status.

  • Good understanding of operation of power systems.

  • A good understanding of implementation and management of Quality Management Systems and standards relevant to the role.

  • Experience and training in using root cause analysis methodology.
