Red Hat Senior Compliance Attorney (Investigations) in London, United Kingdom

Job summary

The Red Hat Legal team is looking for a senior compliance lawyer to join us in the United Kingdom or Ireland. In this role, you will join Red Hat’s Global Legal Investigations Team—part of the Legal Compliance and Ethics function within Red Hat’s Legal Department— as a key and trusted member of a growing organization. This position is expected to act as a subject matter expert in conducting legal compliance investigations involving significant and complex allegations, including allegations related to fraud, anti-corruption, and other related concerns involving employee or third-party misconduct. Although this position will review ethics and compliance-related concerns across the globe, it is expected that this function will be the primary lead running investigation-related matters arising out of Red Hat’s operations in both the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) and APAC (Asia Pacific) regions. Accordingly, this role is ideal for a candidate with substantial prior experience in managing corporate internal compliance investigations. Fluency in Mandarin Chinese is a significant plus. The successful candidate will be one who enjoys deciphering complex factual scenarios, excels at integrating sound legal and business judgment, and has an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, challenging, and constantly-evolving technology and business landscape.

What you will do:

  • Conduct, manage, direct, and support internal investigations related to allegations of illegal, unethical, or other improper conduct involving employees, partners (or other third parties) from start to finish, including analyzing incoming factual allegations, identifying and alerting appropriate internal and external stakeholders, gathering and reviewing relevant information, interviewing witnesses, and identifying any remediation measures

  • Document investigations in a clear and accurate manner and prepare reports of investigation and/or briefings to leadership on significant matters

  • Coordinate with various stakeholders across Red Hat, including management and HR, in order to coordinate and implement remediation measures and other business improvements

  • Issue spot, conduct trend analysis, and assist with providing reporting and analytics related to legal compliance investigations and other related compliance data

  • Develop a solid network of relationships inside and outside of the organization to support the objectives of the Legal Compliance & Ethics Team and the Legal Investigations Team.

  • Interact with Red Hat associates and IBM personnel in a way that enhances and promotes Red Hat’s culture of compliance

  • Engage and manage outside legal counsel, as appropriate, including to opine on potential local civil or criminal legal issues for international matters

  • Lead or support other Red Hat ethics and compliance initiatives, as needed

  • Provide support to the Litigation Team, as needed, including managing employment-related litigation, resolving pre-litigation claims, and mitigating risk of future claims

What you will bring:

  • Qualified to practice law and in good standing in at least one jurisdiction

  • 4+ years of relevant professional experience, with significant experience managing and conducting corporate internal investigations; familiarity with technology industry, channel sales models, and accounting is a plus

  • Bilingual or multilingual language skills, as well as international legal experience, are a big plus (with an emphasis on fluency in Mandarin Chinese)

  • Exceptional independent judgment and discretion in determining next steps and actions related to investigations, litigations, and other compliance matters of significance

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and strong analytical abilities demonstrated through your work experience

  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and handle a diverse and demanding workload in a fast-paced environment

  • Proactive approach to recognizing business and compliance needs

  • Understanding of key legal issues involved in litigation avoidance and preparation

  • Ability to independently handle various litigation matters, including employment
