Job Description

The Team: The Times Technology. We develop and enhance the Times and Sunday Times digital products, including our website and apps, working in partnership with internal and external digital platform teams. We are an agile, cross-functional and diverse team of just over 120 strong, located in London, Sofia and Bangalore.

Your Role: Mobile Engineer. We are looking for a talented and passionate Mobile Engineer to join our team based in London Bridge, but working from home twice a week. You’ll specifically work on our front-end developing new features and optimising existing ones, to help deliver the news to our readers every day.

Day to day you will: As a Mobile Engineer, you’ll be a key component of a team delivering quality mobile apps. You’ll interact with product owners and stakeholders, contribute to the technical conversations and ensure that what we build is best in class and fit for purpose. You’ll report to a Principal Engineer and will help them deliver on the technical strategy and tactical implementation. You’ll mentor other engineers to bring them up to your standard.

What we’re looking for from you: You’re a true engineer with a passion for well crafted and tested code, considering everything from architecture and security to performance. You understand agile methodologies and enjoy collaboration. You lead by example, encouraging your peers to improve continually. You have a continuous improvement mindset and are proactive in driving positive change, inspiring those around you to do the same.

You love engineering and continuously want to learn more. You do thorough code reviews to be sure what we produce is of a very high standard. You understand the value of and are a practitioner of TDD/BDD and DevOps.

As a Mobile Engineer , you’ll be involved with helping lead the technical direction as well as day to day coding standards and best practices. You’ll be a mentor to your peers and team members, a source of technical expertise and will participate in strategic conversations with the rest of engineering and the business. You’ll feel comfortable presenting to internal teams.

You’ll find these skills useful in this role:

  • Solid commercial experience using Swift (required) and Objective-C (desirable), Kotlin (optional)

  • iOS design patterns, including MVC, MVVM+Coordinators and VIPER

  • Building views programmatically without using XIBs/Storyboards

  • SOLID design principles

  • Dependency management with SPM

  • Unit testing with XCTest

  • UI automation testing with XCUITest

  • Continuous Integration - previous experience with CircleCI would be a bonus

  • Build automation with Fastlane

  • Some experience working with ReactNative would be an advantage
