Finance Manager, BDUK Contracts

The Finance Manager partners with the business to provide financial and commercial support and insights to key stakeholders. This role drives optimal business decisions and enhances financial and commercial performance through effective controls.

This role is part of a team at the heart of BT Group’s largest strategic investment, dedicated to nationwide Full Fibre deployment. You’ll collaborate with the business and external government bodies, manage commercial risk and government subsidies, and streamline costs through improved controls. This will help deliver contractual commitments and enable communities to access high-speed fibre broadband.

This position is extremely exciting, offering direct engagement with two Regional Directors and their teams. It presents a unique opportunity to understand the inner workings of a business that is central to the Group’s strategy. You'll have the following responsibilities

  • Requires regular face to face visibility with operational teams and government bodies as necessary.

  • Commercial bid and decision support: Provide bid, in-life commercial and financial support to regional directors within the Commercial and Chief Engineer organisation. Influence team financial decisions by offering robust financial and commercial insights.

  • Communicating and stakeholder management: Engage with stakeholders in operational teams to facilitate and execute builds, collaborating with key stakeholders across various teams. Work closely with commercial, operational, and transformation/innovation teams to comprehend and model the long-term delivery plan. Provide financial insights crucial to decision-making processes.

  • Highlighting risks & opportunities & driving actionable improvement plans.

  • Financial performance: Accountable for monthly reporting, outlook and budgeting/MTP for the regional directors. This includes a full range of financial accountabilities linking operational metrics (productivity, volume delivery) to financial performance along with complying with bid requirements.

  • Providing supporting reporting & analysis to drive decision making and allow the team to optimise for efficiencies. As well as supporting teams with a combined gross cost of c£300-800m, delivering 0.5m+ total homes past.

You'll have the following skills & experience

  • Qualified accountant / Further qualification to support specialism with significant PQE.

  • An ability to communicate clearly & concisely. Telling the story of programme business performance to multiple finance & non-finance audiences at all levels inside and outside of the business, with supporting data and analysis at the right level of detail.

  • Pragmatic team player, adept at holding others to account through a challenging and supportive style, whilst consistently delivering on their own commitments

  • An ability to manage multiple stakeholders and projects, working to tight deadlines.

  • Supporting as an advisor and coach to others both within own team and elsewhere, formulates their operational guidelines or in-depth knowledge and advises on specialist area.

  • Leads, champions and manages conflicting priorities.
