About the role:

Are you passionate about protecting the night-time environment and driving forward Net Zero ambitions?

We are looking for a Capability Lead to join the Lighting and Energy Solutions team to take its business forward through expansion of our Environmental Capability. We provide technical professional advisory and engineering services to public and private sector clients throughout the UK and overseas across all aspects of light and lighting. If you are looking to a new challenge to see personal, business and team growth and be at the forefront of our future ready approach working with the UK’s largest lighting team then this is the role for you.

You will lead, develop and exploit the capability of our Environmental offering. You will achieve business growth through your understanding and experience of all aspects regarding the impact of artificial light including, but not limited to: dark skies, obtrusive light, light nuisance, environmental impact assessments, human factors and Net Zero.

An initial focus will be to support and nurture our existing portfolio of clients and projects, expanding the services offered under this Capability, especially in the Net Zero space. You will look to further diversify our client base, working with our internal WSP disciplines to identify opportunities for growth and new external clients.

Your behaviours, skills and industry experience will appeal to clients needing technical, strategic and project advice, as well as supporting the design of lighting and energy solutions.

You will lead the evolution of our current capability. Working in collaboration with the other five core capability leads, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the direction of our business and to help us strengthen our position for the future. Your team:

The Lighting and Energy Solutions team provides a unique combination of specialist skills backed by global reach. This enables us to offer the latest thinking and best client service, whatever and wherever the challenge. Our design solutions aim not only to be visually captivating but to also sit suitably within the environment in which they are located - being buildable, maintainable and embracing new technologies. We take account of key environmental factors, including sustainability, to support our clients in achieving Net Zero and decarbonisation targets in the use of energy and carbon, as well as ecological factors relating to wildlife and obtrusive light.

We contribute our expertise to the development of national and international standards for lighting design and engineering through our membership and active participation on instrumental committees and panels. These partnerships have resulted in the establishment of industry guidelines and ultimately a better lit world for today, tomorrow and the future.

We'd love to hear from you if you;

  • Are a chartered or incorporated engineer with a relevant professional body (ILP, SLL, IET).

  • Conversant with relevant British and EU standards, legislation and industry best practice and guidence.

  • A proven track record in securing new business and developing existing projects and commissions

  • Experience in preperation of fee estimates, tenders, technical reports, bids, business cases, design work packages and client facing presentations.

  • Excellent communication skills, ability to foster trusting relationships with colleagues and clients in a collaborative environement. Is comfortable and confident in explaining complex technical problems and solutions in clear, unambiguous and simple language.

  • Are self motivated and able to plan your own workload and that of others as required to deliver to client deadlines balancing competing demands.

  • Are an acknowledged leader in respect to artificial light and the environment with a positive industry profile.

  • Demonstrate the desire to constantly improve, motivate and encourage others. Readily support colleague development and bring colleagues into professional network, encouraging and enabling building of relationships.

  • Have a future ready mindset, are an innovative thinker with a broad understanding and application of net zero strategies including dark skies, biodiversity and renewables.

  • Are experienced in creating, building and sustaining meaningful professional relationships with clients in the public and private sectors, key stakeholders, manufacturers and suppliers as well as contractors and relevant external and internal groups.
