Summary:

Facebook's global network, comprised of cutting-edge platforms, is looking for a Network Engineering Manager to join the Backbone and Edge Engineering team. This team is responsible for designing, implementing and supporting one of the world’s largest and most cutting edge networks. In this role you will work closely with other engineers with a wide variety of deep technical expertise in software, systems, IP, and Optical networking to drive forward innovation and expansion of our network. This position is full-time and located in our Dublin or London office.

Required Skills:

Backbone Production Network Engineering Manager Responsibilities:

  1. Manage engineers working to design, build, scale, deploy, and support networks and systems for our Backbone and Edge network infrastructure

  2. Be a highly technical manager with deep experience in networking and software

  3. Hold your own in technical discussions, be a subject matter expert, and have strategic influence

  4. Help define and drive regular development of the technical roadmap to meet the needs of the team, and partner teams

  5. Partner closely with Facebook backbone, edge, datacenter, and hardware network engineering teams and other software infrastructure teams

  6. Help engineers develop their careers, assigning them to projects tailored to their skill levels, long-term skill development, personalities, and work styles

  7. Assess employee performance frequently, address under-performance, and recognize and promote excellent performance

  8. Work closely with dedicated recruiting staff to expand the team, including sourcing candidates, interviewing candidates, participating in conferences/events, and on-boarding new employees

  9. Communicate cross-functionally and drive engineering efforts

  10. Operate in a rapidly evolving environment, adapting quickly to new information and re-prioritizing as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, related technical discipline, or equivalent experience

  2. 5+ years experience managing technical network related engineering teams, including performance management experience

  3. Knowledge of networking and distributed systems

  4. Experience in network management systems for large-scale networks

  5. Excellent communication skills

  6. Experience initiating and driving projects to completion with minimal guidance and communicating insights and ideas across organization

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. 2+ years managing MPLS and RSVP-TE based networks

  2. Experience in software development and engineering for network control and management

  3. 2+ years experience in program management or product management

  4. Knowledge of network topology and capacity planning is desired but not essential
