CIBC’s Investment Banking group focuses on 3 key sectors – Mining, Infrastructure and Energy – with clients ranging from the majors, large independents, pension funds to select small and mid-cap players. This role will be part of a pool of Analysts / Associates supporting senior professionals in the Investment Banking group.
Specifically as related to client coverage: analysing clients' overall financial situations and capital structures, identifying alternative financing techniques, analysing M&A opportunities, executing M&A and financial advisory transactions.
Participate in cross-team assignments where appropriate.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in developing and presenting IB proposals to clients and potential clients for equity and debt placements, mergers, divestitures, acquisitions and advisory assignments
Conduct industry research and analysis to assist in the identification and/or analysis of potential business opportunities
Develop financial models, determining the assumptions and methodology
Perform industry comparative analysis
Work as part of the IB team in executing client mandates, which includes:
Assisting in due diligence
Preparation of offering memorandums and marketing materials
Prospectus drafting
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Peers and senior staff within the department and across the global IB team
Other units of CIBC World Markets including Corporate Banking, Debt Capital Markets and Investment Banking to execute transactions.

AUTHORITIES/DECISION RIGHTS
- As a key contributor to the business unit, this job plays a role in the origination and execution of IB mandates with clients.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ATTRIBUTES:
Minimum 2:1 degree (or equivalent) from a top tier university, preferably with a background in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, Business or Economics
Some relevant experience e.g. in other financial institutions, accountancy firms, rating agencies or buy-side investors
The ability to multitask and meet the demands of a dynamic and fast-paced team environment
A demonstrated proficiency in the assessment of unstructured business problems
Superior analytical and quantitative skills (i.e. financial and data analysis)
Excellent interpersonal skills as well as written and oral communication abilities
A proven record of academic success, teamwork and extracurricular activities
A demonstrated commitment to acting with integrity
Good knowledge of MS office
