Overview Lifeguard is a position designed to support safe practices in an aquatic environment and minimize risk at USU HPER pools. This position will mainly focus on surveillance and rule enforcement at the HPER pools.

Responsibilities Job Duties

  • Monitor activities in all areas associated with the HPER Pools and enforce pool rules and regulations
  • Provide positive customer service and general information on pool operations and other campus recreation programs
  • Attend all training and perform required skills to the standard
  • Follow the established emergency action plan and procedures during an emergency
  • Examine injured persons and administer first-aid or CPR, if necessary, using the proper medical supplies, equipment, and training
  • Maintain a safe aquatic environment by encouraging proper use of equipment by the general public (i.e. diving boards) and upkeep of emergency equipment (i.e. backboards)
  • Inspect facility and pool for cleanliness; perform general pool cleaning and maintenance when required
  • Complete and maintain pool records including potential safety hazards, medical treatments performed, and all relevant incident information

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum age 16
  • Excellent swimming skills and physical conditioning
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations
  • Knowledge of pool equipment and maintenance
  • Work effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perceptions
  • Exceptional interpersonal and problem-solving skills -- politely assertive, tact, patient, and diplomatic while dealing with complex problems
  • Attention to detail with high level of accuracy and the ability to adapt Preferred Qualifications

  • USU students preferred

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certification
