Overview Reporting directly to the Director of Campus Recreation, the Associate Director - Programs and Assessment will serve on the department leadership team and oversee a team of professionals. The Associate Director is responsible for the daily operation, staffing, budgeting, and strategic visioning for multiple program areas within the Department of Campus Recreation. The Associate Director of Programs and Assessment will be responsible for coordinating the research and assessment initiative of the department as well as leading all wellness initiatives and providing management of special events. This individual will be a fundamental team member of the Campus Recreation Department, which provides aquatic programs, club sports, fitness/wellness, intramurals, outdoor recreation, special events, extramurals, and collaborative programs.

Responsibilities Departmental Management

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the program areas of Campus Recreation. This may include Intramurals, aquatics, club sports, nutrition, fitness, youth programs, esports and special events.
  • Develops and maintains policies and procedures for Competitive Sports (intramurals, club sports and esports), Fitness, Nutrition, Aquatics and Youth Programs.
  • Compile, prepare, and maintain records for overall department such as budget, participation numbers, injury reports and incident reports.
  • Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal health, safety, and employment laws and regulations.
  • Coordinates with third party vendors as it pertains to hosting of large-scale activities and events within Campus Recreation Programs.
  • Serves as the primary point person for all special events within the department of Campus Recreation.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships within the division and across the institution that will grow and promote the wellness initiatives at Utah State University.
  • Plan, organize, market, and carry out special recreation related events such as Wellness Fairs, Races, etc.
  • Research new trends and grow activity offerings based on university needs and industry trends.
  • Participate in strategic planning.
  • Ensure long and short-term goals of the department and division are being met.
  • Understand and represent the mission and vision of Utah State University and the Department of Campus Recreation.
  • Work evenings and weekends, as needed. Personnel Management

  • Manages personnel, including hiring, training, scheduling, disciplinary functions, and all associated paperwork.

  • To include oversight of (2) Program Coordinator IIs, (1) Registered Dietitian, (1-2) Manager IIs and up to (3) graduate teaching assistants.
