Overview Incumbents in the Aircraft Maintenance Technician position maintain, service, repair, overhaul, inspect, and test aircraft and aircraft engines to ensure air-worthiness.  Maintain, repair and service Utah State University Flight training aircraft (i.e. Diamond DA40F, DA42 (2 liter engines) airplanes, Robinson R-22, and R-44 helicopters).  Must have own tools. Must be willing to help maintain shop equipment, buildings, lawn care, snow removal and other tasks to assist the flight school operations.  Assist the Chief of Maintenance with all tasks related to airworthiness and act in his stead when not available.

Responsibilities The Aircraft Maintenance Technician reports to Aircraft Maintenance Technician Lead. This classification may train and guide hourly employees.

Typical Functions:

  • Performs maintenance, troubleshoots, repairs, overhauls, inspects, and tests aircraft to ensure air-worthiness.
  • Performs general preventive maintenance.
  • Returns aircraft to service after 100hr/annual inspections and maintenance.
  • Helps maintain spare parts inventory and shop support equipment as directed.
  • Purchases equipment and supplies as directed.
  • Follows safety rules and procedures; suggests ways to make improvements.
  • Helps train and direct staff on building cleaning and maintenance as assigned.
  • Performs building maintenance as assigned.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of aircraft and aircraft engine repair and maintenance operations and procedures.

  • Knowledge of applicable safety procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration rules and regulations.
  • Ability to effectively operate specialized tools and equipment specific to aircraft and aircraft engine maintenance.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to use micrometers, rivet guns, power and hand drills, dial indicators, lathes, grinders, pressure gauges, ohmmeters, torque wrenches, timing lights, sheet metal shears, spray guns, and other items.
  • Ability to maintain aircraft maintenance logbooks.
  • Ability to purchase appropriate supplies and materials, according to guidelines.
  • Ability to interpret wiring and schematic diagrams and technical instruction.
  • Ability to lift 80 pounds.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

  • Airframe and Powerplant License plus a minimum of one year of experience is required. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two-year or four year degree in an associated field

  • 6 months experience working on Diamond DA40F, DA42 (2 liter engines), or similar aircraft.
