Job Summary The Shop Manager will manage the shop team, focusing on encouraging and motivating team members to promote problem-free, productive shop operations. The Shop Manager will manage the day-to-day activities of the shop team members to ensure the team meets the project assembly and production scope, schedule and budgetary goals. The Shop Manager will provide continual support and coaching to employees to help ensure they are fully engaged in achieving success. The role will monitor performance against operational goals and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and initiatives. The Shop Manager will collaborate and communicate with leaders, shop team members, other departments, customers and management. This position is located in Livonia, MI As a Shop Manager, you will:

  • Manage staff, prepare work schedules, and assign specific duties
  • Develop work plans coordinating any specialty equipment requirements necessary to support
  • Monitor and evaluate staff performance including productivity, quality, goal setting and discipline
  • Review and assist in management of monthly financial business performance
  • Forecast and plan manpower requirements and participate in the hiring process
  • Conduct training for continuous skills improvement
  • Foster a productive and safe working environment
  • Manage shop organization and clean-up ensuring safety standards and procedures are followed
  • Ensure shop equipment is maintained properly
  • Ensure adherence to company and industry regulations
  • Monitor and anticipate industry trends and advances in technology and equipment

To be considered a Shop Manager, you will need:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 9 years of automotive, manufacturing, or related experience, including 4 years of people management experience
  • Experience in managing and developing processes
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and customer relationship management skills
  • Working knowledge in the use and operation of various industrial shop equipment
  • Excellent knowledge of mechanical assembly and ability to operate shop equipment
  • Able to supervise, mentor, coach, and train team members
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge in MS Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Knowledge in the development of work instructions and Statements of Work (SOW)

A successful candidate may also have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business, Operations Management, or related
  • Experience in management and operations
  • Ability to implement and manage preventative maintenance schedules
  • Understanding of automotive prototype, manufacturing, or similar industry standard practices
  • Ability to read blueprints and drawings
