HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT

Responsible for designing and drafting components, assemblies, and/or subsystems. Creates workable engineering drawings and layouts of mechanical or electrical assemblies consistent with company and industry standards for quality and detail. Optimizes design factors such as functionality, ease of manufacture, availability of materials, part commonality, assemble-ability/serviceability, and cost. Identifies, specifies, and integrates commercially available industrial components when required. Utilizes various materials appropriate for the design application (e.g., machined components, weldments, ceramics, plastics, etc.). Uses manufacturing/engineering software tools for CAD, calculations, and review of manufactured part status. Understands and meets customer specifications. Coordinates design development of work orders, ECO’s, and quotes with other engineering staff and with other departments. Meets time estimates and project deadlines.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Understands basic engineering fundamentals and theory generally known to entry-level bachelor’s degree graduates in the relevant field of work.

  • Follows standard engineering practices and procedures.

  • Performs assignments given by more senior level engineers.

  • Follows instructions given as to required tasks and expected results.

  • Manager screens assignments for unusual or difficult problems and gives direction as to techniques and approaches to be used in completing new or non-routine work.

  • Requires good organization and communication skills and the ability to work well with others.

  • Requires routine exercising of judgement in making decisions among various technical options.

  • Possesses a sound theoretical background and is able to apply fundamental scientific/theoretical techniques to real world problems in his/her field of work.

  • Utilizes engineering fundamentals and past experience gained to perform both routine and moderately complex engineering tasks.

  • General assignments have clear and specified objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables.

  • Is a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of his/her field of work.

  • Works on complex designs, analyses, or other engineering tasks of a more challenging nature with minimal supervisory input.

  • Is able to independently apply theoretical/analytical techniques pertaining to his/her expertise in generating functional designs and solving conventional problems.

  • Exercises discretion and judgement on a regular basis in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation of standard techniques to the task at hand.

  • Devises new approaches to problems encountered.

  • Has an expert-level understanding of routine engineering tasks relevant to field of work and a good working knowledge of specialty areas encountered in the course of normal work.

  • Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of engineering work as part of a major project or for a total project of moderate scope.

    WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • S. or B.E.T. or 15 years’ experience in field and proven engineering skills.

  • 3-6 years’ experience if B.S.; 0-3 years’ experience if M.S.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Preferred Skills:

  • Proven capability and experience with complex heat transfer and fluid flow systems.

  • Working understanding of electrical systems for control and power delivery.

    PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A typical day requires continuous sitting and/or standing in an office setting with occasional breaks. Standing and walking around 100k sq. ft. facility extensively throughout the day.

  • Able to comfortably lift 35 pounds without injury.

  • Occasionally ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.

  • Occasionally moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.

  • Occasionally remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.

  • Constantly moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.

  • Occasionally adjusting or moving objects up to 100 pounds in all directions.

  • Constantly communicating with others to exchange information.

  • Constantly repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

  • Occasionally operating machinery and/or power tools.

  • Constantly assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.

  • Occasionally subjected to low temperatures and high temperatures

  • Occasional sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
