The Computer Support Manager’s role is to plan, organize, and manage IT server and networking operations and staff to ensure the stable operation of the DPS’s IT infrastructure and data centers. This includes developing, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing key functional areas, particularly network infrastructure, server infrastructure, data communications, and telecommunications systems. The manager oversees strategic development of all aspects of data facilities, including optimizing processes and technology, and ensuring a high availability platform. The IT Computer Support Manager will also schedule and direct activities to resolve hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion.

  • Hands-on experience in System design, IT Architecture, Networking, Infrastructure operations and operational stability to transform the way the teams operate to ensure delivery of high-quality systems/applications.

  • Ensure security compliance across the entire enterprise domain through continuous evolution of the auditing and remediation program.

  • Experience with architecting new systems, establishing infrastructure standards/processes and ensuring teams adhere to standards, maintain technical diagrams and documentation, Infrastructure/ Architecture design, Configuration, and implementation, leading and guiding other team members and responsible for monitoring all production and non-production systems.

  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert for cloud end-to-end architecture, including Azure and future providers, networking, provisioning, and management.

  • Expert in configuring Dell Server/Storage Hardware

  • Extensive knowledge in VMware vSphere (6.x - 7.x) Hypervisor including VMware NSX, Storage vSAN and iSCSI targets.

  • Exceptional knowledge of service and application delivery, as well as successful service level agreement accomplishments.

  • Application support experience with Microsoft 365 administration and ecosystem.

  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations.

  • Participate in the development of IT strategies in collaboration with the executive team with specific focus on application solution architecture and life cycle management.

  • Oversee the planning, deployment, integration, and initial configuration of all new enterprise solutions and of any enhancements or upgrades to existing solutions in accordance with standard best operating procedures generically and the enterprise’s document policies and procedures specifically.

Summary

The Computer Support Manager is responsible for a wide range of activities related to organizing individuals and projects involving computer support such as the development, implementation, maintenance and utilization of microcomputer and mainframe data processing systems. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Functions

Directs the activities of a professional, technical, and administrative support staff through subordinate supervisors including interviewing, hiring, terminating, reviewing performance evaluations conducted by subordinates, evaluating the performance of subordinates. Reviews and approves/disapproves a variety of actions, policies, and procedures recommended by subordinates; prepares short and long range plans, prepares, implements, and monitors operational and biennial budgets. Implements methods and procedures for computer production and operations. Organizes implementation of new or upgraded software programs or hardware installations with other agency/institution departments. Answers technical questions regarding problems, performance, and procedures for users and departmental staff. Provides and prepares hardware and software recommendations, special analyses, and standard report information as requested. Plans and coordinates functions of computer support to ensure efficiency and optimum utilization of resources. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the application of systems analysis and programming in automated information systems. Knowledge of the limitations and use of mainframe and microcomputer hardware and software. Knowledge of supervisory practices and techniques. Knowledge of budgetary procedures. Ability to supervise a small to medium-sized computer support staff. Ability to compile reports and make recommendations concerning hardware/software support functions and budgetary requirements. Ability to analyze computer support system problems and devise corrective measures. Ability to read and interpret technical literature and evaluate product recommendations.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related field; plus six years of experience in computer support, including two years in a supervisory capacity. OR Completion of technical training in computer science, data processing, or a related field acquired from a vocational, military or industrial setting; plus six years of experience in computer support, including two years in a supervisory capacity.
