Position Overview

As a Civil Superintendent for Kiewit, you will function as a field supervisor overseeing civil project operations on DOT (highway, bridge, etc.) construction projects and be responsible for the organization, work methods, scheduling, cost control, conformity with drawings and specifications, workmanship, and assignment of work to accomplish project goals, either directly or through general foreman/foreman. You will also work to maintain positive working relationships with clients, architects/engineers, suppliers, subcontractors, and jobsite staff.

District Overview

Kiewit's South-Central District is one of Kiewit's leading infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, transportation, and water resource markets. Projects you could be working on could include mass grading, drainage, paving, utility and more. Although most of our work is regionally based in the south-central region of the United States, we also pursue various projects stretching across the United States. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about infrastructure and committed to the construction industry as opposed to design.

Location

This person will start out on a DOT project in Little Rock, AR. The most likely future locations for this role include (but are not limited to), DFW Metroplex, Baton Rouge LA, and/or Little Rock AR.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a field supervisor overseeing civil construction operations such as dirt, laying pipe, widening, MOT, barrier walls, etc. on DOT type construction projects.

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop direct reports.

  • Review and approve the balance of foremen, journeymen, and laborer’s composite labor rates.

  • Manage contract administration (subcontractor/field management meeting for communication).

  • Develop a program to maintain good client relations involving staff on site.

  • Initiate and attend meetings for problem resolution and planning.

  • Oversee and approve monthly job cost updates and quarterly cash flow projections.

  • Review, approve, and negotiate change orders.

  • Develop and implement a plan for project completion and turnover.

  • Create, update, review, and maintain daily reports and logs for record keeping purposes.

  • Ensure that all performance evaluations are completed and documented in a timely fashion for direct reports.

  • Recommend organizational, policy, procedural, and/or staff changes as needed.

  • Review, approve, and/or reject promotions up to General Foremen.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of construction experience with experience working in a superintendent/leadership capacity supporting civil construction operations.

  • Experience supporting civil project functions on DOT and/or other heavy civil infrastructure type projects.

  • Ability to travel and/or relocate as needed to projects located in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and surrounding states.

  • Experience in leadership, safety, negotiations, planning, and contract administration.

  • Must be a self-starter, highly motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to quickly learn and understand various processes regarding Kiewit’s policies, procedures, and software programs.

  • Ability to identify and resolve any problems that may arise.

  • Excellent organizational, administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills.
