Global Quality Systems Coordinator, South America (Peru)

Allied Mineral Products is a leading manufacturer of monolithic refractories worldwide. We are seeking a Global Quality Systems Coordinator, South America in Lima, Peru. This position is responsible for

maintaining and improving the quality level of the products produced by Allied Mineral Products and the affiliated manufacturing facilities around the world. Travel to different Allied affiliates around the world to help with ISO 9001 audits and maintain/improve the quality level at those facilities. Be responsible for auditing and consulting on the quality and production processes at our affiliated companies, which includes reviewing and/or approving control documentation and records. International travel will be required for this position.

Key Duties:

  • Support the manufacturing department by ensuring that production is properly sequenced, and batches are formulated and checked in a timely manner.

  • Audit the performance of routine quality assurance functions to ensure the following:

  • All raw materials received meets specifications, which include screen analysis, bag weights, material identifications, etc. Reject or approve as necessary.

  • All finished products meet specifications, which include screen analysis, bag weights, product identification, moisture content, workability, etc. Reject or approve for stock, as necessary.

  • Product quality data is recorded in permanent records and samples of finished products are retained in accordance with Allied’s record retention program.

  • Monitoring of production control functions to ensure that standard operating procedures are being followed. Monitor production and assist the Quality Assurance department to ensure the following:

  • Inspection of water meter settings, Phos acid systems, etc. to ensure accurate delivery to mix.

  • Observation of batching procedures, etc. to ensure that correct materials are being used.

  • Inspection of equipment after cleaning to ensure that products will not be contaminated.

  • Assist affiliates in verifying returned products and deciding disposition: rework, re-blend, return to inventory, or disposal. This work is to be documented by way of all appropriate paperwork and inventory adjustments.

  • Assist in the coordination of activities that involve production, QA and R&D. This includes preparation for the manufacture of new products, mix changes, and process capability studies.

  • Assist with ERP integration at all affiliates worldwide. Provide ongoing support with the new SAP environment. This will entail understanding all departments such as Customer Service, Operations, Quality, Purchasing and provide support in the new ERP.

  • Work with the Purchasing Department in resolving raw material quality problems and assist in setting raw material specifications with suppliers.

  • Ensure with Corporate that up-to-date records of all current mixes and all finished product specifications are being used at affiliates. As appropriate, assist on updating the file of obsolete mixes.

  • Assist QA in the investigation and resolution of Customer Service Requests, and when necessary, visit customers.

  • Assist affiliates production and quality on any technical issue they might have and be responsible to following and obtaining timely answers from AMP.

  • Be willing and able to travel to all Allied Mineral Product facilities around the world, and also visit customers/vendors when needed.

  • Perform ISO 9001 internal audits and ensure recertification is achieved at all Allied Mineral Product facilities around the world, and assist in developing an internal audit teams.

  • Perform shapes audits and provide support to ensure the following:

  • Employee competency in using a drawing to measure and cast complicated shapes, do basic math to calculate water and measurements,

  • Proper procedures and equipment are being utilized.

  • Health and safety of our employees is top priority.

  • Support for solving challenges that the Shapes team may face.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering or science discipline, or other similar technical field is required, or equivalent work experience.

  • At least five years of work experience in an industrial environment required.

  • Proficient with Excel and other MS Office applications; SAP or similar ERP experience a plus.

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 beneficial.

  • QA experience desired.

  • Strong math capabilities required (statistics, algebra, geometry).

  • Requires excellent problem-solving capability.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal and negotiation capabilities required.

  • Proficient written and verbal communication of complex ideas in English and Spanish.

  • Proficient written and verbal capability in Portuguese a plus.

  • Must be able to travel internationally (approximately 25%). Trips are typically about 1 - 2 weeks in duration.

Working Environment:

  • Work out of home-based office.

  • May be exposed to hot or cold conditions, and dust while on plant floor, or visiting customer locations.

  • Required to follow Allied Mineral Products’ Safety & Health policy and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as appropriate.
