Allen County Dog Warden Full-Time and Part-Time Deputy Dog Warden in Lima, Ohio

The Allen County Dog Warden is currently accepting applications for their Full-Time and Part-Time Deputy Dog Warden positions. 

Same duties will be performed, but the Full-Time deputy will be assigned primarily to tag enforcement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed below. Reasonable accommodations will be made for disabled persons covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act in accordance with the requirements of that Act.

General Duties Include:

  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Assists with compliance of state law and regulations
  • Communicates and establishes effective working relationships with the general public
  • Prepares and presents in a timely manner all required summary, analytical, or other reports as requested by the Dog Warden
  • Assists in dog licensing process as required

Minimum Qualifications Include:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Certification by Ohio Peace Officer Training Council within 6 months of hire
  • Valid Ohio Driver's license with good driving record
  • Must be bondable up to $2,000.00
  • Knowledge of dog care, dangerous dog control, and capturing stray dogs
  • Ability to learn and enforce state law
  • Ability to use tact when dealing with the public
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to perform heavy physical labor; weight could exceed 50 pounds
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, employees, and the general public
  • Ability to respond to after hour emergency calls as described in the On-Call Policy

Preferred Qualifications Include:

  • Associate Degree in Law Enforcement
  • Certification by Ohio Peace Officer Training Council
  • Firearm certification
  • Allen County resident
  • 0-2 years of experience in an animal or a law enforcement field
