We are Siemens Mobility! Due to growth, we are adding an Industrial Engineer to our organization. Our Rolling Stock product offerings include light rail vehicles, electric locomotives, diesel-electric locomotives, passenger coaches. The core manufacturing processes include extensive carshell welding activities, bogie fabrication and assembly, electrical subassembly, finishing and paint, and final assembly. As our Industrial Engineer, we will ask you to lead the way in ensuring that production operations are ready to go at the scheduled start of production date with all required instructions, fixtures, and infrastructure, utilizing lean methodologies and practical process knowledge for the total area of responsibility, including your area working team. This is a highly visible, "on the floor" role based in Lexington NC.

What you will be doing:

The Industrial Engineer ensures that production operations are ready to go at the scheduled start of production optimally utilizing lean methodologies to meet or exceed performance standards. The Industrial Engineer will work directly with vehicle manufacturing groups like carshell, finishing, and assembly in defining and optimizing plant layout. The responsibility will be focusing on the Sacramento, CA location but also overseeing the support of future locations and will ensure successful ramp-ups, ongoing production, and continuous improvement.

  • Aligning with your team on goals of safety and delivery

  • Ensuring that adequate space and infrastructure are in place in preparation for new projects or product launches.

  • Implementing business cases for capital expenditures such as new tools, equipment, or infrastructure. e.g. new buildings, new finishing booths, new cranes based on review and analysis of future backlog or improvement of current infrastructure.

  • Preparing future production floor layouts to meet planned tact time and schedule.

  • Driving your tasks and project plans, including those of your team, by guiding and following up.

  • Working knowledge and understanding of permitting requirements, foundation requirements, and other regulatory requirements when implementing infrastructure changes

  • Reviewing engineering drawings, and 3D models using Pro-E or PTC Creo to gain an understanding of manufacturing process requirements such as job sequence, workflow, and takt time.

  • Able to craft / source tools, templates, jigs, and fixtures using engineering requirements, engineering drawings, or products already existing on the production floor without prints.

  • Leading manufacturing improvements, sophisticated process changes, and technology changes including reporting to a steering committee, projecting efforts involved with implementation, and identifying impacts to the business in dollars and hours.

  • Coordinating and presenting technical information to and from all levels of the organization including vendors, project managers, production team members, and operations managers.

What you will need to be successful:

  • 2—4 years of experience planning and support in the launch of vehicle production, new factory layout development

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering

  • Work experience in the rail/aviation business, (if Rail -- preferably in heavy rail)

  • Firm project management skills, including developing project plans, timelines/schedules, budgets, proposed layouts, resource requirements, calculating ROI, etc.

  • Practical knowledge of the lean toolbox and ability to utilize lean principles to reduce waste.

  • A history of “hands-on” approach to problem-solving and countermeasure implementation within own areas of responsibility.

  • Practical knowledge, implementing new plant roll out ensuring timelines/schedules, and budgets are maintained

  • A history of driving projects in a very dynamic environment and completing them on time

We would be impressed if you had:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering (Equivalent proven experience will be considered instead of higher degree)

  • Practical experience in driving projects in a very dynamic environment and completing on time

  • Practical experience using sophisticated Factory Planning Methods such as defining high-level manufacturing plans, identifying/analyzing new technologies required, crafting a value stream analysis, performing total space needs analysis, performing total capacity needs analysis, implementation planning, etc.

  • Practical experience transferring technical knowledge, manufacturing knowledge, and proprietary technologies from lead factories to market factories

  • Practical experience utilizing and implementing lean methods and tools such as 5s, 7 Types of Waste, 8-Step

The salary may be higher or lower depending on the budget and the candidate's experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
