Job Description

Looking to make a difference developing disruptive technologies? BAE Systems FAST Labs leads the way with opportunities for tackling the Defense and Intelligence Communities hardest problems with innovative software and hardware solutions. FAST Labs, the research arm of BAE Systems Electronic Systems, is seeking a Senior Scientist to join the R3 device Materials and Manufacturing (M&M) team. Ideal candidates are highly motivated and with experience in some of the following areas: semiconductor device physics and modeling, device fabrication, process design kit (PDK) and/or assembly design kit (ADK) generation, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), fabrication and metrology. A background in exploiting the electromagnetic, thermal, mechanical and/or quantum properties of novel materials, and their effects on fundamental device operation is preferred. The Device Design and Materials Modeling Scientist will be expected to support both program execution and proposal work to bring in new business. On-site, hybrid, and fully remote candidates will be considered.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of advanced semiconductor devices with emphasis on multi-physics modeling, microfabrication process development, metrology and related material studies.

  • Support development of multi-physics-based devices (e.g., MEMS) with emphasis on multi-physics modeling, microfabrication process development, metrology and related material studies

  • Work with Principal Investigators to advance overall technical skills and develop R&D expertise in the forefront of Advanced Microelectronics

  • Lead, plan, and execute project sub-tasks

  • Contribute to Research Proposal, White Paper, IP Disclosure, and Publication writing

  • Effectively communicate with clear, concise messaging to teams and leadership

  • Willingness to learn and apply new skills required to accomplish tasking

Based on multiple factors, remote work may be a possibility for this position, at the discretion of the business.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor s with foundation in physics, engineering, materials science or similar field

  • 3-5 years work experience in material sciences field with experience leading small teams

  • Familiarity with microfabrication process and multi-physics modeling

  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret Clearance

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • MS or PhD. in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or Material Science and Engineering, or similar field

  • Familiarity with some of the following topics:

  • Magnetic (CoFe, NiFe, etc.), electro/thermal/mechanical (PZT, LiTaO3, etc.), optical (e.g., glass, SiN), quantum and wide bandgap semiconductor materials (GaN, SiC, etc.)

  • Device design and microfabrication

  • Device simulation software (TCAD, Finite Element Modeling)

  • Lithography mask design (kLayout, Cadence, AutoCAD, Mentor Graphics, L-Edit, ADS)

  • PDK development

  • Device testing (4 pt Van der Paw, VNA Probe Stations, Hall Measurements, and similar)

  • Various optical and electrical metrology (SEM, AFM, Interferometry, etc.)

  • Hands on experience with microfabrication processes

  • Working experience with multi-physics modeling tools/applications

  • Experience contributing to proposal writing, bidding and winning new business

  • Ability to coordinate technical project performance with program leadership

  • Demonstrated ability to reach across disparate technical domains to create novel solutions

  • External communications experience (published papers, conference presentations)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience presenting technical research to large audiences

  • Active DoD Secret clearance

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $92290 - $156860

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
