MIT Lincoln Laboratory Electro-Mechanical Technician B in Lexington, Massachusetts
The Quantum Information and Integrated Nanosystems Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory conducts quantum information science research from a shared foundation of innovative research, state-of-the-art fabrication tools, and well-equipped measurement infrastructure. The group conducts a broad range of experimental and prototyping activities. The group’s quantum information science activities include the development of superconducting, trapped-ion, and diamond nitrogen-vacancy center qubits.
Job Description
An individual who assists in laboratory or research work and operates experimental and technical equipment under the supervision of scientific personnel or technicians of higher grade. Must be able to work for periods of time without supervision. The candidate will work in the integrated photonics laboratory and will support a broad range of activities under direction from scientific personnel. Expected tasks include constructing and using measurement apparatuses, testing of passive and active optical devices, packaging devices, analyzing data, and reporting results to other members of the team. Devices to be tested are likely to include passives such as splitters, grating couplers, and IO couplers, as well as actives such as lasers, modulators, and photodetectors. Ability to perform detail-oriented work and to clearly organize and report test results is key. The goal of this position is to increase measurement throughput in the lab for both established and developing measurement techniques as well as to support device packaging.
Requirements: Graduation from a two year day technical school or its equivalent in applicable experience is the minimum experience requirement.
Well organized, detail oriented, and able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
Able to follow test instructions accurately and consistently, with minimal supervision.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) and a desire to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Experience testing photonic integrate circuits including fiber coupling on-and-off chips is strongly desired
Experience with electrical probing and testing of devices is strongly desired. High-speed testing a plus.
Experience with electrical and mechanical packaging including soldering and the ability to make mechanical modifications is a plus.
The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with a solid work ethic.
