MIT Lincoln Laboratory Digital Engineering Transformation Lead in Lexington, Massachusetts

The Digital Engineering Center is a transformation Group within the Engineering Division at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. The Division works in partnership with the other Laboratory technical divisions to design and build advanced technology systems of national importance. The Division’s expertise includes mechanical, materials, aero, thermal, optical, control, and fabrication engineering plus energy and autonomous systems. Supporting the engineering efforts are a wide range of specialized laboratories, electronics and mechanical fabrication capabilities, plus integration and environmental test facilities. Special emphasis is placed on the integration of design and analysis capabilities to support the rapid prototyping of hardware systems.

Position Description

The Digital Engineering Center (DEC) at MIT Lincoln Laboratory is seeking a Digital Engineering Transformation Lead to join our team in Lexington, MA.

The DEC is seeking a self-driven, bold, passionate engineer who will join our team on an exciting journey of professional inspiration and personal growth. This position includes leading digital engineering engagement activities that develop and strengthen our relationships within the Laboratory, with current DoD sponsors, and with potential new partners. Growing Digital Engineering technology and adoption is a high priority initiative at the Laboratory. This position will have visibility at the Director’s Office Level, and provides the opportunity to be part of a multi-disciplinary team, and learn and grown in a critical field developing advanced technology that will transform how the Laboratory develops prototypes . In addition, this position has promising career growth with the potential to impact DoD acquisition and inform how Digital Engineering should be incorporated extensively in future programs. This position reports directly to the DEC Group Leader. Mentorship will be available from various sources.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Represent the Digital Engineering Center as a focal point to Laboratory users and external partners. Lead and coordinate activities and engagement in order to facilitate adoption of the MITLL Digital Engineering methodology in prototype development

  • Collaborate with DEC leadership to develop and refine transformation and adoption strategies

  • Provide technical advice and guidance to senior leadership regarding implementation of new Digital engineering methods and techniques in prototyping work

  • Develop metrics framework to track user adoption and benefits of digital engineering, and develop methods to regularly assess these metrics

  • Establish understanding of Digital Engineering landscape within the DoD and align the Laboratory strategic goals with potential Digital Engineering opportunities within the different DoD agencies

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree i n Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics discipline and 5+ years’ experience working on hardware prototyping programs

  • Proven leadership skills in a variety of roles

  • People-person excited to learn new technologies and engage with staff at all levels both internal and external to the Laboratory

  • Strategic/critical thinking skills, creativity, problem-solving skills, talent for debate and challenging the status-quo and providing fact-based analysis of alternatives

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to brief large audiences and senior internal and external leadership with confidence

  • Ability to represent the Digital Engineering Center and Laboratory in internal and external engagements with aplomb

  • Data analysis experience

  • Experience in Digital Engineering a plus, but not required for consideration

  • Interest and experience with organizational change management techniques highly desirable
