The Human Health & Performance Systems Group develops human-centered technologies to overcome operational challenges and to enhance human capability in domains of interest to national security. Our research programs focus on innovative and objective solutions in the areas of integrated wearable systems, human-machine teaming, enhanced communications, neurocognitive analytics, medical technologies, and language learning. Our group is highly interdisciplinary and includes scientific experts in physiology, cognitive science, neuroscience, psychology, biomechanics, computer science, engineering, linguistics and physics. Our core technical competencies include system-level modeling and gap analysis, advanced sensing and signal processing, machine learning and artificial intelligence, computational modeling, hardware and software prototyping, model-based systems engineering, establishing measures of performance, and human data collection in laboratory and field environments. Job Description

As a staff member in our group, you will work with your team to address key stakeholder needs and further the Group’s mission by:

  • Contributing your technical knowledge and skills to research and development programs.

  • Collaborating with internal and external collaborators (e.g., academics, medical professionals, industry experts, and military servicemember and civilian researchers).

  • Developing new program and technology concepts.

  • Leading project teams and mentoring junior staff.

  • Supporting leadership in developing and executing group strategy.

Requirements

  • A PhD in Biomedical Engineering or similar degree with 10 or more years of additional medical technology research and development experience.

  • Demonstrated capabilities in research program development.

  • Expertise in project leadership and research team leadership, including junior staff mentorship

  • Expertise in physiological data modeling, including AI/ML methods.

  • Interest and ability to consistently learn and apply new things to solve national security challenges.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with highly interdisciplinary teams. Successful candidates have a high level of motivation, strong desire for collaboration, and deep respect for their colleagues.

  • Demonstrated skills in scientific writing and development / presentation of technical material to both expert and non-expert audiences.
