MIT Lincoln Laboratory 11-10 - Cyber Security CO-OP Student (July-December 2024) in Lexington, Massachusetts

Our Cyber Security Team monitors and protects Laboratory research from IT threats. The team operates a security operation center which looks at network traffic to find and eliminate threats from malware, spear fishing, and other attacks against the Lab. The team also looks for any vulnerabilities in our current environment and helps identify and develop solutions to mitigate these risks.

Position Description

Candidate will assist in the day-to-day operations of the Cyber Security Team. This may include developing an information-monitoring program to improve the efficiency and accuracy of MITLL security systems. Candidate may also have the opportunity to be involved in various information security projects including the analysis of malware trends, enhancing the offline scanning process, and potentially analyzing zero-day malware. An important part of this position involves monitoring several sources of security information daily including mailing lists, vendor sites, ‘hacking” sites, and other sources. Candidate will work closely with the Cyber Security Threat Assessment, Vulnerability Management, and Engineering and Operations teams to help determine any corrective measures to improve delivery relevant product and security information.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of computer security, anti-virus, and vulnerabilities is helpful.

  • Basic knowledge of networks and Windows operating systems required.

  • Must be able to work in a team environment.

  • Attention to detail and ability to do accurate data entry and analysis required.

  • Knowledge of scripting languages preferred.

  • Must be able to interact with end-users in a professional and service-centered manner.

  • Basic knowledge of Linux operating systems helpful.

  • Basic knowledge of VMWare helpful.

  • Must be in an undergraduate college program currently; with interest in pursuing IT Security or Computer Science preferred

    Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
