Position Summary

PACCAR Embedded Engineering is a rapidly expanding organization that is transforming the way control systems and software are developed for commercial vehicle applications. This includes developing the latest vehicle controls, display technology, and autonomous truck solutions that exceed customer expectations.

PACCAR’s Embedded Engineering department, which serves both Kenworth and Peterbilt, has an opening for a supervisor of the Control Systems Software Development team.

The successful candidate must coordinate software development for control systems across multiple concurrent vehicle programs to meet build schedules. This will include coordinating the work of teams across all Embedded Engineering locations and supplier partners' application software development on control systems for quality software releases. The ideal candidate will be able to lead engineers to deliver critical program goals across multiple programs and continue to enhance PACCAR’s global software development processes.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers to decompose requirements specifications into product deliverables and improvements.

  • Manage team deliverables across multiple projects and programs for all stages of product development (Definition, Concept, Engineering, and Verification/Validation), and adapt job responsibilities within the team to ensure successful completion.

  • Supervise design, development, and maintenance of embedded systems software for heavy commercial trucks

  • Work with counterparts throughout PACCAR to provide a global approach to Embedded Engineering, and maintain corporate specifications where appropriate

  • Develop and maintain department and program resource plans and budgets related to assigned teams.

  • Provide written and verbal updates to PACCAR senior management on deliverables progress, program objectives, department strategic goals, or globally aligned roadmaps

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop engineers across Embedded Engineering disciplines.

  • Up to 15% travel (domestic and international)

    Required Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

  • 3+ years of design, validation, or maintenance of embedded software required with relevant experience in the automotive or trucking industry.

  • Must demonstrate an ability to perform in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment, manage multiple simultaneous projects, and respond dynamically to shifting priorities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Preferred Skills / Qualifications

  • Experience with automotive or commercial vehicle networks, such as CAN, SAE J1939 and LIN

  • Knowledge of ISO26262 and ASPiCE.

  • Experience with Application Lifecycle Management and System Modeling tools such as IBM DOORS, IBM Rational Rhapsody, IBM Rational Team Concert, MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, and HP Quality Center.

  • PACCAR plant and service experience desirable. Preference will be given to candidates with software design and release, multiplexed communications, diagnostics, powertrain and/or other embedded systems leadership experience

  • Significant experience with advanced features in Microsoft Excel, Project, and PowerPoint.

  • Solid Understanding of Six Sigma disciplines and tools.

  • Prior supervisory experience.

  • Prior experience with Agile Development practices.

  • Overall product knowledge
