About the role

This position oversees operation functions of the Distribution Center (DC) and provides leadership and direction to ensure all business objectives are achieved. The incumbent will be responsible for maximum utilization of facilities and personnel to ensure the flow of finished goods from the supplier to the customer. The Incumbent must demonstrate the ability to identify and remove obstacles, look for opportunities for improvement, possess strong attention to detail in order to drive positive business results and work with the highest levels of integrity. The desired candidate will be a passionate leader who can leverage best practices within the business to set direction and drive change through transparency, communication and execution while building culture of positive relationships with their direct reports and peers.

Job Responsibilities

Distribution Operations Management

In our Distribution Center of approximately 150 unionized hourly employees, you will:

  • Drive a customer focused culture to meet and exceed internal and external customer expectations using condition on arrival feedback, claims data, and other customer driven issues.

  • Lead DC supervisors for 3 shift operation with a distinct focus on customer service and warehouse efficiency while supporting inventory bin accuracy and minimizing product damage across all shifts.

  • Create and maintain departmental reports as required, coordinate with daily receiving and shipping team, support trailer yard movement and capacity.

  • Safeguard warehouse operations and contents by supporting security procedures and protocols – to include CTPAT requirements.

  • Maintain physical condition of warehouse by leading and supporting 6S and support facilities management for the site.

  • Assist DC manager with financial objectives by supporting the annual budget for the site, scheduling expenditures related to warehouse supply levels and scheduling of overtime.

  • Act in site leadership capacity as needed.

People

  • Utilizing Carrier people leadership tools & expectations, create a culture of teamwork, excellence, unity and respect.

  • Support and manage team members through effective performance management.

  • Champion new hire onboarding and training for hourly workforce to ensure robust process are in place.

  • Create achievable goals, establish priorities, manage resources, review project progress and results, address gaps timely.

  • Responsible for successful onboarding of new supervisors and ensuring on-going training & development of Supervisory team.

  • Motivate, organize and encourage teamwork within the supervisor team and hourly workforce to ensure objectives are met.

  • Directly support shift coverage as needed including weekend coverage.

  • Support planning for overtime relative to monthly plan/budget

  • Enforce operational policies and procedures that align with EH&S, CBA, employee handbook and SOPs. Ensures SOP updates are fully integrated within the site including employee training.

  • Responsible for 2nd Step Grievance process

  • Participate in teams, committees, events and training that improve the organization and culture.

EH&S

  • Partner with local EH&S Site leader to align on, implement and reinforce the site’s culture of safety.

  • Ensure regular cadence of EH&S best practices including GEMBA walks, Root Cause analysis and other after-incident actions.

Carrier Excellence Continuous Improvement

  • Apply Carrier Excellence to implement continuous improvement methodology, identifying and eliminating root causes of issues that arise within the Warehouse. Examples include Lean Tools, DIVE methodology, champion and/or lead Kaizen events, hold Tier 2 Board meeting daily with supervisor team.

  • Ensure Culture of Carrier Excellence is maintained, including Tier Board process.

  • Ensure annual Quality goal achievement.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Science Degree.

  • 10+ years in warehouse operations, of which:

  • 8 years experience leading hourly workforce, in a 24x7 work environment.

  • 6 years leading multiple direct reports of which 4 years leading Supervisors.

  • Ability to work all shifts for coverages as needed.

Preferred Qualifications (assets)

  • Experience in a Unionized environment.

  • Demonstrated experience creating & maintaining a culture of excellence, safety & continuous improvement.

  • Adaptable to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy within a diverse organization

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a history of influencing multiple levels of the organization.

  • Ability to make logical and accurate decisions using the best available information.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and anticipate needs.

  • Detail-oriented and well organized.

  • Understanding of CTPAT guidelines and requirements

  • Excellent technology skills, spreadsheet use and development, and integrated data base systems (SAP WM)

  • Proven ability to succeed in the day-to-day management of sustaining and strategic priorities for the site.

  • Technical knowledge / understanding of the HVAC product industry or ability to learn expeditiously.

  • Passionate about eliminating problems before they occur or after only one occurrence.

  • Strong leadership skills including the capability to drive improvement and challenge the status quo.
