Job Overview

We are hiring a Sr. Engineering Manager to our winning team!

The role involves managing and leading a team of engineers across multiple sites, developing and executing product development and cost reduction plans, supporting new product development efforts, reviewing designs and processes, improving department metrics, and providing assistance to marketing, sales, and manufacturing. The responsibilities also include strategic planning, setting objectives, ensuring staff has the necessary support and training, managing budgets, leading continuous improvement initiatives, managing intellectual property and patents, overseeing ongoing projects, and communicating with customers. The ability to travel, relocate, lead a team, and communicate effectively is important. A recommended educational background is a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, along with 8-10 years of experience in product development and strong leadership and communication skills.

Additionally:

  • Manage and provide leadership to product engineering group consisting of 8-10 engineers at multiple sites.

  • Develop and execute product development and cost reduction plans to achieve goals established in annual business plan.

  • Support new product development efforts for Enclosures and Drains business unit.

  • Conduct ongoing review of designs and processes associated with current and new products to ensure product integrity.

  • Employ and update department processes and procedures to provide continuous improvement of department metrics.

  • Provide timely assistance to marketing, sales, and manufacturing in support of business unit objectives.

A Day In The Life

  • Partner with counterparts in marketing and operations, develop strategic and business plans, including establishing plans for new product development, product line extensions and product cost reduction

  • Set departmental objectives and work with staff to set and meet individual objectives to support Company business plans

  • Assure staff has appropriate support to accomplish design work and to meet project schedules; recommend training as appropriate to enhance staff skills and to make staff members more effective contributors

  • Prepare/review major expenditure accounts to support product line business plans

  • Prepare and manage annual department operating budget

  • Ensure cost reduction projects are developed and executed and lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Manage intellectual property and patent application process for the business unit

  • Manage progress and action items for ongoing design and capital projects

  • Manage Material Cost Take Out and product enhancement and provide failure analysis on defective material.

  • Communicate with internal and external customers regarding specification interpretation/clarification.

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Ability to travel on business related trips (up to 25% time)

  • Ability to move to various locations within the Company

  • Bachelors degree in an Engineering field with strong preference in Mechanical & Electrical engineering

  • Minimum 8-10 years experience in product development-preferably in utility distribution systems.

  • Solid leadership and communications a must.
