We are currently looking for summer Head Camp Counselors to help facilitate age-appropriate exciting indoor and outdoor games, team building activities, contests, and craft projects for our licensed all-day our licensed all-day summer camp program at the Lenexa Recreation Center.

Position Summary

The Head Camp Counselor is responsible for helping in developing, implementing and facilitating Recreation Division-s summer camp program within a specific group. The Head Camp Counselor will help initiate, lead and oversee various daily activities. The Head Camp Counselor will have the ability to communicate and work with a variety of ages and skill levels, while maintaining a lead role within camp. The Head Camp Counselor will also have the desire and ability to work in a cooperative, team-oriented atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understands age-appropriate activities and initiates, instructs and leads activities for campers

  • Plans, organizes, leads and supervises campers in a variety of daily activities.

  • Communicates clearly and effectively with campers, staff, and parents.

  • Provides supervision and directions to Camp Counselors.

  • Supervises group activities during all hours children are present.

  • Develops activities and weekly group schedules with Camp Counselors.

  • Fosters positive, healthy relationships with children/youth.

  • Adheres to all KDHE and Lenexa camp policies, including safety regulations, medication, discipline and emergency procedures

  • Documents any situations, disturbances and incidents at camp and reports to directors.

  • Consistently models a professional demeanor.

  • Handles above average physical activity, both indoors and outdoors

  • Completes any other job duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum: At least 18 years of age; high school diploma or G.E.D.; Job-related experience working with school-age children; CPR, First-Aid, and Epi-Pen certified.

    Desired: Working towards or completion of a bachelor-s degree in education, recreation or similar area.

    Starting rate of pay is $16.50 per hour depending on qualifications and directly related experience.

    Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical and drug screen. Successful candidate job offers are contingent on the successful passing of a fingerprint background check required by State of Kansas Child Care licensing regulations.
