The City of Lenexa Police Department is looking for a Custodian Crew Leader. Position Summary

The Police Building Services Crew Leader position leads and directs full and part-time custodians and performs manual work to keep the Lenexa Justice Center buildings and adjacent grounds in clean and orderly conditions.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works in close collaboration with the supervisor on contracts, staffing schedules, ordering equipment and cleaning projects at the Lenexa Justice Center.

  • Sets up for meetings, recreational activities and City events scheduled at the Lenexa Justice Center.

  • Monitors facility security and safety by locking doors; checks electrical appliances for hazards; reports any mechanical problems or the need for major repairs; assists with minor maintenance on facility equipment (buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, etc.)

  • Heavy cleaning: Cleans, waxes and strips floors; shampoos rugs; washes walls and glass; and removes trash.

  • Light to moderate cleaning: Sweeps and mops floors, dusts and cleans offices, meeting rooms and other work areas; gathers and empties trash; cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies; unstops sinks and toilets; strips, waxes and polishes floors; vacuums and shampoos carpets.

  • Operates the following equipment: propane/electric buffers, Grout Hog, Kaivac and auto scrubbers (walk-behind and ride-on).

  • Keeps detailed records about facility maintenance, preventive maintenance repairs and inventory purchases.

  • Cleans sidewalks and removes snow and ice; removes debris and other litter from building grounds.

    Additional Examples of Work Performed

  • Minor painting duties inside and outside of facilities, as needed.

  • Escorts contractors, vendors and/or other personnel while in the station.

  • Drives City and/or personal vehicle to off-site training courses, meetings and other City facilities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Compliance with all policies and standards.

    Qualifications

    Minimum: High school diploma or G.E.D. and four years of related experience. Must possess and maintain a valid driver-s license. Must complete required NIMS IS-100 and IS-700 training within three months of employment.

    Desired: One year of leadership experience.

    Environment and Physical Factors

    This is moderate physical work requiring the strength and agility to lift, push, pull, carry and maneuver heavy objects up to 50 lbs.; the ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials; the ability to work in extreme weather conditions; the ability to work safely in all situations; and the ability to visually inspect work and read labels on cleaning/chemical containers.

    Rate of pay to $20.44 to $23.69 per hour based on previous experience. The City of Lenexa offers a comprehensive benefits package including:
