The City of Lenexa is currently accepting applications for a Court Security Officer to join our team. The Court Security Officer is a sworn police officer that is responsible for maintaining order and decorum in Municipal Court. The Lenexa Police Department hires highly motivated men and women who enjoy working with the public and delivering the highest level of professional police service.

Position Summary

The Court Security Officer provides a safe and orderly environment within the Municipal Court for the public, visitors and employees. This position also conducts security screening of persons and property entering the courtroom and assists the judge, prosecutors and court clerks in the enforcement of court orders.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains order and decorum in Municipal Court. Provides direct physical security to all persons present in the courtroom, Municipal Court lobby area, Court Clerk-s Office and the Public Safety Complex. Conducts security screenings of persons entering the courtroom. Monitors activity and maintains readiness to intervene utilizing reason, common sense, mediation and authority if appropriate.

  • Checks the criminal history and warrant status of defendants scheduled for court; checks the criminal history of defendants whose probation is set to expire. Enters bench warrants into REJIS, follows up on warrants to assist with clearing and investigates contact information and attempts to contact defendants with DUI warrants.

  • Prepares courtroom for the dockets; checks courtroom, Municipal Court lobby area, Court Clerk-s Office and the Public Safety Complex to ensure the facility is in appropriate and secure condition. Notifies Building Maintenance of any vandalism or property situations.

    Qualifications

    Minimum: Must be a certified law enforcement officer or be able to attain certification as a law enforcement officer according to the standards of the State of Kansas and the Lenexa Police Department; minimum of 21 years of age at the start of employment; one year of law enforcement experience; and must maintain yearly state certification with 40 hours of certified training. Must possess and maintain a valid driver-s license.

    Desired: NCIC certification; experience using REJIS; and the ability to speak, read and interpret Spanish. College courses in criminal justice or a related Associate or Bachelor-s Degree.

    Compensation and Benefits

    Hiring range is from $20.44 - $23.69 per hour depending on qualifications and directly related experience. This is a full-time, hourly non-exempt position. The City of Lenexa offers a comprehensive benefits package including:
