Argonne National Laboratory Protective Force Training Coordinator in Lemont, Illinois

Responsible for assessing the Protective Force (PF) training needs and developing comprehensive solutions to effectively meet applicable DOE and CFR requirements. Leads the design and delivery of advanced training programs, including qualification, remedial, refresher, and special circumstance courses. Evaluates training results and conducts in-depth analysis to ensure continuous improvement and effectiveness of all PF personnel. Establishes and monitors performance metrics, providing strategic insights to enhance productivity and operational efficiency. Maintains approved certification of Argonne's protective force training program through the DOE-National Training Center Training Approval Program, ensuring full compliance and excellence in training standards. Oversees the accurate tracking of all training (both local and off-site) courses.

Responsible for regulating, coordinating, and exercising strategic control over all protective force supplies, equipment, and other material. Manages the planning, provisioning, and requirements determination for PF personnel needs, ensuring coordination of acquisition, distribution, accurate accountability via the inventory tracking system, and compliance with consumption, retention, and disposal requirements.

Position Requirements

  • Extensive experience in protective force operations or applicable law enforcement operations and training.

  • Demonstrated leadership in law enforcement, military, or government settings with a focus on training and operational management.

  • Proven experience in the development and implementation of advanced training programs and policies/procedures related to training protective force/law enforcement personnel.

  • Experience ensuring program is compliant and following program requirements.

  • Knowledge of acquisition processes, automated records, and control systems, along with material substitution criteria and storage, issue, and disposal processes.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to observe and analyze complex situations and develop effective, strategic solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively deliver course curriculum through advanced training techniques.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting and build strong relationships with laboratory customers and external stakeholders.

  • Position requires occasional shift work (24/7 operation) and weekend work to meet the training demands of PF personnel.

  • Ability to travel as necessary for continued education, certification, and off-site training.

  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.

Additional Requirements:

  • Position may require a "Q" or "L" security clearance.

  • Applicants will undergo drug testing as defined in 10 CFR 707.4 and a background investigation by the Federal government to obtain access authorization. Subsequent re-investigations are required

Preferred Requirements:

  • Ed ucation: Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of relevant experience, or a graduate degree with 2+ years of experience or equivalent.

  • Formal education in criminal justice, security management, or a related field is strongly preferred.

  • Industry experience in protective force operations, law enforcement, or a related discipline may be considered in lieu of a degree, particularly if it demonstrates a deep understanding of the field, proven problem-solving capabilities, and the successful application of relevant skills in real-world situations.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of DOE security-related orders and directives.

  • In-depth knowledge of Argonne policies, procedures, PF written directives.

  • DOE National Training Center Basic Instructor Training and Intermediate Force Instructor (DOE-NTC) certification required or ability to obtain, with additional certifications or advanced education highly desirable.

  • Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to become a certified Intermediate Force Instructor.
