Applied Materials Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) engineer in Leixlip, Ireland

SAFETY ENGINEER

We are looking for an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer , based in Ireland (Leixlip / Maynooth).

Description of Role:

As an EHS Engineer, you will support the Applied Materials team based in Ireland and in UK. You will work at customer production sites and/or in our offices. The position will report to the EMEA EHS Director and will work closely with site management and the customer to drive EHS programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement.

As EHS Engineer, you will also participate in international projects within the EMEA EHS team.

You will ensure the development and implementation of EHS programs with the aim of assessing and then minimizing risks to Applied Materials employees, the environment, and the community.

Some of the key EHS programs include:

  • Respiratory Protection Program

  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)

  • Chemical Authorization Program

  • Change Management (MoC)

  • Fall protection.

  • Hazardous Materials Management Program

  • Analysis and assessment of risks at work

  • Project Work Plans/Pre-Activity Plans

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with required EHS codes, standards, and regulations, as well as government health and safety regulations. Act as a liaison with local, regional, or national regulatory authorities.

  • Ensure proper investigation of safety and environmental incidents conducted for EHS events and guide corrective actions aimed at closure. Experience in root cause analysis methods preferred.

  • Act as a professional advisor to the Country Management team for all existing or potential safety issues.

  • Develop Prevention and Protection strategies and guide team members to develop action plans to continuously improve performance and customer satisfaction.

  • Review and report on safety progress and performance for the assigned site/function based on EH&S metrics set by Management.

  • Ensure that specific assigned projects are completed as planned to meet EH&S goals. Provide management with updates and escalations on projects/programs. Maintain the communication channel with site/location functions.

  • Track and trend EHS legislation and take appropriate actions to comply with the requirements. Communicate EH&S issues to as many managers and employees as needed.

  • Remain aware of advances made in safety and environmental technology. Ensures that applicable technological advancements are incorporated into Applied.

Profile:

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in EHS.

  • Certified as Safety officer according to local regulation (NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ LEVELS 5&6 Occupational Safety and Health)

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a Health and Safety discipline is preferred.

  • Experience in production or Service Maintenance environments will be considered as a priority.

  • Expert in Equipment Safety, Chemical Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental & Facilities/Industrial Safety

  • Experience in root cause analysis methods preferred.

  • Computer and application skills, including MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat, are required. AutoCAD experience is a plus, but not specifically required.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Good ability to communicate to a heterogeneous audience (customer and internal)
