Job Summary:

Working understanding of medical technology and the ability to recognize problems. Possesses the ability to communicate effectively and perform well under high stress. Possesses the knowledge, training, experience, and competency in the following, specific to the age of patients served; the ability to obtain and interpret information; a knowledge of growth and development; and an understanding of the range of treatments needed by these patients. The patients served include all age groups as follows: neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

Desired Qualifications :

• 3 years or more experience with high complexity testing in Hematology

• Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist experience with scheduling, quality control, inspection readiness, policy and procedures, validations, as well as employee training and competencies

Position Shift:

Full-Time, Monday-Friday, 10am-6:30pm CST

Signing Incentives : $10,000.00 Signing Bonus and Relocation Stipend, Signing Incentives

Sign-On Bonus Requirements :

The sign-on bonus is not applicable to current VUMC staff or former staff who have worked for VUMC in the past 12 months. The sign-on bonus is only available for full-time positions.

Consideration may be given to candidates that can obtain certification within 120 days, in accordance with state guidelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Processing and testing in one or more departments during a shift

• Mastery and practice of laboratory policy and procedure

• Intimate knowledge of testing methods theory and instruments and tools used for diagnostic utility

• Quality Assurance, Kit Validation, Instrument Maintenance, Proficiency Testing, Environmental Monitoring, Reagent Preparation, Diagnostic Reporting and Alarm

• Incident reporting and documentation

• Professional and medical ethics, confidentiality police, PHI and patient privacy guardian

• Specimen collection specialist

• High complexity specialty management

• Assisting Technologists and Administrative Laboratory Director as needed and where appropriate

VUMC’s Diagnostic Laboratories are undergoing an exciting time of change, including a planned expansion to a new state-of-the-art 110,000 sq ft laboratory.
