FECON Manufacturing Weld Engineer in Lebanon, Ohio

Position: Manufacturing Weld Engineer

Status: Exempt

Job Summary:

The Manufacturing Weld Engineer role requires the appropriate knowledge, skills and abilities in the specification and oversight of welding operations leading to the production of weldments that meet requirements of applicable standards. Responsible for creation of AWS D1.1 qualification system for Fecon. This includes PQR and WPS development and qualification, implementation of companywide NDT program, and a CWI documentation management system. The Manufacturing Weld Engineer will collaborate with design engineering and product engineering team in new product introduction and ECR process through use of DFMEA, PFMEA and APQP tools.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Plans and designs manufacturing welding processes for the production facility

  • Capable of performing basic calculations for welding joint design, selection of appropriate base and filler metals for specific applications, selection, and adjustment of welding processes

  • Analyze the mechanical/physical weld parameters of products to assure sound design and adequate function

  • Verification that welding procedure specifications have been properly qualified and that they are being applied correctly through layered process audits

  • Develop and implement system to meet AWS D1.1 qualification

  • Manage all aspects of ASME/PQR/WPS qualification from code review through final WPS submittal

  • Implement and manage companywide NDT program

  • Implement and apply DFMEA, PFMEA and other APQP tools as needed for new product introduction

  • Create and manage welding document management system for CWI inspections

  • Inspection of Weld Quality, Workmanship, and Conformance to Specification in operations

  • Create and Manage Weld Training for Processing and Inspection of Welds

  • Direct and Perform production associates with welder training and Classroom instruction

  • Participate in lean initiatives such as process evaluation for waste reduction, kaizen events, and other continuous improvement projects as needed

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Use of 3D solid modeling tools for stress analysis and joint configuration review (SolidWorks)

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software as required to complete and maintain records.

  • Strong understanding of lean principles and continuous improvement

  • PDCA problem solving experience is a plus

  • Experience in MIG welding of plate steel

  • Experience working with automated welding equipment is required

Education and Experience:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience

  • CWI certification is desired

  • CWE certification is desired

  • Experience with AWS D1.1, D14.3 & D14.6 Specifications desired

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the facilities.

  • Must be able to access all parts of the company equipment.
