Job: Machinist

FLSA: Full-Time; Non-Exempt

Job Summary:

The CNC Mill Boring Machinist is responsible for setting up and completing machining jobs in a job shop environment.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Plant Manager, Production Supervisor and Lead Machinist to prioritize jobs for completion.

  • Sets up and run manual mill and lathe occasionally.

  • Reviews traveler packet and drawings.

  • Uses material handling equipment to prepare material for machining and stage material when complete.

  • Sets up the job.

  • Loads and locates the first piece.

  • Assembles and sets tools.

  • Proves out set-up, when needed.

  • Runs the program.

  • Checks the first piece using calipers and other measuring instruments.

  • Runs remaining pieces and checks for burrs.

  • Cleans and deburrs parts as needed.

  • Properly disposes of scrap material.

  • Completes required paperwork and maintains equipment.

  • Monitors and tops off coolant and lubricating oil as needed.

  • Replaces machine air filters.

  • Performs preventative maintenance on CNC equipment as recommended by the equipment manufacturer.

  • Assists in other departments as needed, including assembly and performs preventative maintenance on other equipment.

  • Maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of the work area.

  • Uses appropriate personal protective equipment and otherwise works in a safe manner.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficient in setting up and operating milling with Haas/Fanuc/Mazak controls.

  • Familiar with machine shop processes and procedures.

  • Familiar with quality instruments and procedures.

Education and Experience:

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Must have formal or on-the-job training in CNC machining.

Physical Requirements:

  • Uses appropriate personal protective equipment and otherwise work in a safe manner

  • Ability to safely use and lift items weighing fifty (50) pounds.

  • Most work performed standing at floor level.
