Dartmouth Health Registered Nurse SANE Unit Based PRN in Lebanon, New Hampshire

Overview

Provides nursing care to sexual assault patients.

Responsibilities

  • Offers kit collection options to the patient and performs a complete medical/forensic examination. Documents support as to why a step/action was not completed.

  • Performs and documents the medical/forensic examination on the paper chart.

  • Documents detailed injuries with support of photography after written consent from patient/legal guardian.

  • Ensures the Emergency Physician completes a medical screening exam.

  • Administers prophylactic medications.

  • Maintains chain of custody for each sexual assault exam.

  • Coordinates care of agencies involved in assisting the sexual assault patient and coordinates referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up.

  • Provides testimony as a fact witness when subpoenaed and coordinates with attorneys during the judicial process. Maintains open communication with Risk Management during judicial process proceedings.

  • Maintains equipment in proper working condition and exercises fiscal responsibility of unit’s resources.

  • Completes suspect exams upon receiving a court-ordered warrant.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.

  • Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.

  • Completion of approved “Sexual Assault Examiner Training” course required.

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • Licensed Registered Nurse in New Hampshire required.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate required.
