Dartmouth Health Health Information Management Analyst - Lead Health Information Services in Lebanon, New Hampshire

Overview

This role is part of the Health Information Services Department, a shared service of the Dartmouth Health health system that centers on the patient’s health (medical) record. The Lead HIM Analyst is considered the Department’s expert in deficiency, chart correction, and eMPI processes and software. The Lead HIM Analyst will troubleshoot application issues, resolve process inconsistencies, and engage with external customers for training and issue resolution. This role includes using quality reviews of team processes to lead process improvement activities, leading training development (in conjunction with appropriate staff) and providing support to Supervisor/Manager in staffing tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots application issues and works with Epic analysts to resolve. Maintains issue log and communicates out on issue and resolution.

  • Attends to third tier customer service requests, both departmental and throughout the organization. Is highly professional in interactions with customers through phone calls, emails, and in-person visits.

  • Provides training and at-elbow support to departmental staff and employees in the health system, as needed.

  • Participates in projects bringing new health system members onto the Epic electronic medical record system.

  • Serves as a Department expert in the documentation deficiency, chart correction, and eMPI services lines, including full understanding of all relevant application functionality and documentation requirements.

  • Identifies process improvement opportunities and leads process improvement activities for the Department.

  • Is highly involved in the creation of training, education, and support materials for team processes and other DH staff.

  • Assists Supervisor/Manager in staff scheduling and other similar tasks.

  • Is able to independently prioritize and accurately perform a variety of duties within a system that has frequently changing assignments, priorities and deadlines.

  • Maintains and safeguards all health information received in both electronic and paper form.

  • Follows company retention policy and departmental procedure for storing and purging paper copies of documentation that have been digitized.

  • Provides excellent customer service and displays professionalism both when interacting with internal/external customers and when responding to phone calls or email.

  • Works independently with self-discipline and works well in a team environment.

  • Maintains total confidentiality regarding all patient information.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned

Qualifications

  • 3+ years as a senior HIM analyst or equivalent

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, training, and education.

  • Familiarity with all aspects of medical records, including electronic medical records, preferred. Experience with Epic EMR desired.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and/or coding preferred.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel preferred.

  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal).

  • Detail oriented.

  • Ability to work as a team and use sound judgment in decision-making.
