Dartmouth Health Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) in Lebanon, New Hampshire

Overview

Assists with patient flow through the eye clinic by monitoring patient arrivals and helping patients navigate through the clinic. Performs all clinical duties required of a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) (see Key Responsibilities below). Follows established standards and procedures for exceptional patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Recognize and comply with all national, local, and institutional regulations, policies, and procedures with regard to patient privacy and safety.

  • Prepare patients to see the eye care provider by performing comprehensive intake examinations and ancillary testing. This includes (but is not limited to) collection and documentation of patient health and eye history, testing of

  • visual acuity, potential acuity, glare testing, ocular imaging, visual fields, pupils, applanation tonometry, ocular motility and stereopsis assessment, manual lensometry, manual and automated refraction (without prescribing), and

  • administration of pharmacologic agents.

  • Assist with minor surgical procedures.

  • Prepare patient, room, supplies, and equipment for exams 5. and procedures.

  • Inventory, cleaning, care, and maintenance of ophthalmic supplies, equipment, and exam/procedure rooms.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of policies and procedures for technical and clinical activities.

  • Provide patient education and instructions regarding medication, refractive needs, and home health eye care within the scope of a COT.

  • Assist fellow staff and physicians with daily tasks.

  • Accept training for advanced skills.

  • Maintain current certification status.

  • Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • 2 years of experience in an Ophthalmology practice required

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • Current International Joint Commission of Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (iJCAHPO) certification as Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) required.

  • Basic Life Support certification required within 60 days.
