Indian Health Service Medical Technician in Lawrence, Kansas

Summary This position is located in the Medical Laboratory department of the Haskell Indian Health Center. Incumbent performs a wide variety of difficult and complex laboratory tests, examinations, and determinations of human tissue, body fluids and other substances from all areas sections within laboratory. This position is supervised by the Supervisory Clinical Laboratory Scientist. $5,000 Sign on Bonus for Newly Appointed Federal Employees with One year Service Agreement Responsibilities Conduct clinical laboratory tests and examinations in all clinical laboratory sections. Perform quality control, calibration and basic instrument maintenance on all equipment and testing platforms. Interprets results of sample analyses in order to recognize the anticipated reactions as well as departures from the norm and facilitate collaborative discussion with medical staff. Perform patient phlebotomy by venipuncture and capillary methods, utilizing age appropriate communication skills in explaining blood draw procedures. Perform clerical duties such as: filing laboratory reports, making copies, or reports, answering departmental phone, generating e-mails, utilizing automated lab package and electronic health record. INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Specialized Experience For positions at GS-4 and above: (a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled. In addition to the Individual Occupational Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-07: One year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, sills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples include: Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory test and examinations (chemical, microbiological, hematological, and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or technical work in a closely related field, e.g. biological laboratory technician work that required application of the methods and techniques of the position to be filled. OR One full year of graduate education in clinical laboratory science or a field which is directly related to work as a Medical Technician.
