We are looking for a Junior Research Assistant , to be responsible for implementing analytical pipelines for image analysis for food science projects, using machine learning, AI, and other techniques. Concretely, you will develop pipelines for segmentation, classification, and tracking solutions of relevant features, to support product development and perform basic statistical analysis of these features.

A Day in the Life of a Junior Research Assistant

  • Join Nestlé R&D project teams to provide results-driven statistical, data science and mathematical expertise, in particular for image processing tasks

  • Be responsible of image processing related tasks within projects, including goal setting, work planning (involving other functions) and targeted execution

  • Implement, enhance and maintain analytical image processing pipelines, such as segmenting, features extraction, labeling,… using statistical modelling and machine learning

  • Perform basic statistical analysis of imaging related features

  • Visualize insights, create digital tools and translate main results into relevant information for product development activities and communicate them to internal stakeholders

What will make you successful

  • Master’s degree in the field of Physics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or related fields

  • Working experience in image analysis for product design (food or related consumer products) is a plus

  • Experience selecting, training and finetuning neural network architectures, for image recognition, image segmentation and video sequences annotation

  • Knowledge of basic image processing techniques and pipelines

  • Knowledge of probabilistic models such as Hidden Markov Models is a plus

  • Knowledge of advanced statistics is a plus

  • Strong knowledge of Python. Knowledge of R, Matlab is a plus

  • Open mindset and motivation to join cross-functional teams and activities

  • Strong and effective communication skills in English with an ability to present your results to a non-technical audience in a precise and concise matter
