Desert Parkway Behavioral Healthcare Hospital Speech-language Therapist - CONTRACT in Las Vegas, Nevada

This position addresses challenges with language and communication. Helps people with autism improve their verbal, nonverbal, and social communication. The overall goal is to help the person communicate in more useful and functional ways. Common goals may include improving spoken language, learning nonverbal skills such as signs or gestures, or learning to communicate using an alternative method (such as pictures or technology).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluates the patient’s current level of ability.

  • Creates goals and strategies that will allow the patient to work on key skills.

  • Provides treatment plans for improving recognized challenges.

  • Improves the patient’s quality of life through interventions.

  • Plans, implements, and directs therapeutic programs for patients.

  • Develops specific treatment goals and interventions to meet needs of patients.

  • Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team that consults with other healthcare professionals in determining a total treatment plan and recommends changes based on individual observations and evaluations.

  • Observes, analyzes, and records patients’ participation, reactions, and progress during treatment sessions, modifying treatment programs as needed.

  • Keeps current on advances in research and therapeutic resources available to best help the patients.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology required

  • State of Nevada Audiology and Speech Pathology licensure required

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in related therapy field

  • Basic knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests

  • Knowledge of assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders, as well as neurodevelopmental disorders

  • Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics
