Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, performs the receptionist and secretarial duties on the Birth Center while functioning as the focal communications source at the Birth Center nursing station. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, assists nursing staff with patient care. Provides assistance in the delivery room to nurses and physicians. Takes vital signs, feeds infants, gives newborn baths, changes bed linen and assists patients in ambulation as needed.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Performs hourly rounding including: Pain, Position, Personal needs and Possessions

  2. Processes orders, completes necessary forms and notifies consultants

  3. File test results in patient charts

  4. Processes patient charges

  5. Performs receptionist duties (answering phone, placing phone calls, use of Info Rad paging system, directing visitors, keep nursing station and waiting room free of clutter)

  6. Provides care for recovery and post partum patients and newborns

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Proficiency in medical terminology

  • Knowledge of keyboard/computer

  • BLS Certified

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within six months

Preferred:

  • Previous experience or training as Unit Clerk

  • Previous work experience as OB Technician/Nurse Aide
