Position Summary

The Director, Railway Education is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership for the Railway Management Certificate Program (RMCP) and to design, develop, and deliver new educational programs in accordance with industry needs. MSU RMCP is the leading management and business educational program for high-potential railroad managers in freight and passenger railroads as well as suppliers and shippers.

The MSU RMCP resides in the Eli Broad College of Business in order to develop synergies with the College's leadership in supply chain management for freight railroads. The goal of CRRE education is to support the MSU mission of advancing knowledge and transforming lives through providing management and leadership across the breadth of the railway ecosystem.

Program responsibilities will include: 1) Management certificate programs for senior managers and executives in railway operations management and business development; 2) Potential graduate programs leading to a Master's level academic qualification through a concentration in railway operations and management; 3) Other leading-edge and topical shorter programs that fulfill railway industry requirements from time to time, both open enrollment and customized.

The railway industry has been a principal provider of freight and passenger transportation for almost 200 years and employs cutting edge transportation technology and service delivery capabilities. As the railway industry responds to the increasing needs for sustainable freight and passenger operations, there is a need to educate managers and specialists on railway related issues and develop future railway and transportation industry executive leadership. It is the donor's desire that MSU become the leading provider of graduate degrees and executive development needs for the rail industry through knowledge dissemination.

Position Summary:

The Director will reside within the College reporting to the (currently vacant) Executive Director /Burkhardt Professor who will oversee and direct this position and lead research activities. This is a continuing appointment academic staff position at the specialist level.

The CRRE Director, Railway Education will:

Lead the conceptualization, design and delivery of executive seminars and short courses for railway industry and transportation education with a focus on modal operations, business development, intermodal and multimodal processes and transport roles in global supply chains;

Teach in the Railway Management track of graduate level programs, subject to qualification and experience;

Lead cross-college and cross-discipline teams to deliver executive level education, including carefully selected external subject matter experts where necessary;

Influence the railway and intermodal industry through industry presentations and interactions;

Seek advice from CRRE donors and rail industry experts regarding industry trends and program direction;
