McLaren Health Care Sonographer Cardiac - McLaren Careers in Lansing, Michigan

According to established policies and procedures, operates ultrasound diagnostic equipment to produce pictures for measure­ment of dimensions of heart structures. In doing so, obtains pertinent patient information, explains purpose and duration of testing to patients, and operates ultrasound equipment. Reviews results and prepares reports for physician review.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Confers with patients and/or family members in order to gather pertinent patient information including history of heart problems, current medication and so forth, and docu­ments same in patient charts.

  2. Explains diagnostic procedures and answers questions from patients and/or family members in order to allay fears and anxieties and elicit cooperation.

  3. Instructs and assists patients in assuming necessary position for required exposure to ultrasonic waves.

  4. Measures and records different dimensions of heart struc­tures utilizing calipers according to established proce­dures.

  5. Reviewsimages and prepares information for physician interpretation.

  6. Maintains equipment in clean and proper working order, and replenishes machine supplies as necessary. Notifies super­visor of serious malfunctions.

  7. Performs other duties as requested.

Required:

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Completion of an accredited Echocardiography or Allied Health program that provides clinical and didactic training in the field of Echocardiography.

  • Registered or Registry Eligible Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) with American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Registry eligible must become registered within six months of hire.

  • BLS certification as Healthcare Provider or equivalent through the Military Training Network (MTN).

Preferred:

  • Six months of Echocardiography (including Stress Echoes, TEE, and TTE procedures) work experience.
